Rush (Blu-ray) Official AVSForum Review - Page 2

I thoroughly enjoyed this film at the movies, and will be picking up the blu-ray at some point. I would also say that one need not be a fan of F1 to enjoy this film (although it certainly doesn't hurt).

I generally enjoy Ron Howard's movies and look forward to seeing this one on blu-ray.

Thanks for reviewing it for us, Ralph! cool.gif

Fantastic movie, great review!

What a great movie. Saw this at the theater on release day.

Very well done movie by Ron Howard. The acting performances were good, especially by Daniel Bruhl who was just a dead on Niki Lauda.

Highly recommend this movie to anyone that has not seen it.

Will be getting the Blu-ray on day one for sure.

Thanks for the review Mr. Ralph!

Hopefully the success of this movie will cover up the horrible plot in what could have been a good movie...Driven.....

More Indycar, F1,and LeMans movies please!

Thank you Ralph, love your reviews and is always right on the money.
I got a surprise early delivery from Amazon and I played it last night.
This movie sure has the loudest surround sound I ever experienced that at some time during the racing scene that I had to tune down the volume and the transducer that I built into the seat make me feel like in the F1 seat. Very immersive indeed.
one note, viewers who are sensitive to motion be warned. Wish the racing sequence can last a bit longer.

I just watched it too, couldn't stop smiling, the bass and overall sound was awesome. My favourite movie since Oblivion for pure AV enjoyment, great movie, don't need to be an F1 fan to enjoy this in your home system

Watched this last night, redbox rental, and agree, fantastic PQ and even better AQ. Opie does it again. A real treat for those of us old enough to remember when racing teams could and would try anything to win, like the Tyrrell P34 six wheel car.

I just watched this last night. I thought it was a great movie all around. I did not expect much from it to be honest, but was pleasantly surprised

I was very impressed with the LFE tracks and the audio in general when the cars fired up and revved up. My basement was quaking!!!!!

Almost like sitting at the start/finish line when all cars first fire up for the start of the race. I absolutely love the standing starts in F1. There is nothing quite like it and impossible to truly describe to anyone who has not experienced it live. You can feel your entire body rumble as the RPM's rev cool.gif

I would love to see an American team but that won't happen anytime soon! Why do we have to have an American team to have people residing in America watch F-1? They either enjoy racing or they don't. I follow and have attended both F-1 and MotoGP races. Both seem to do just fine even without a huge American presence in either discipline.

Back to the topic. I saw this in the theater, all 8 of us! I plan on buying the Blu Ray tomorrow.

Received our Blu-ray discs of 'Rush' and 'It's a mad, mad, mad, mad world', yesterday and just finished reviewing both today. Unfortunately, 'Rush' video quality appears as if it was a standard DVD, not a Blu-ray, in terms of its picture quality and resolution. I am disappointed because it is not at all at the level of most Blu-rays we have and have played on our Oppo BDP-105 and calibrated Samsung 40-inch LED/LCD. While it is displaying at a data rate of 25-32Mbps, the resolution quality is simply not in the picture.

On the other hand, 'It's a mad, mad, mad, mad world' is a technically stunning conversion and beautiful Criterion Collection release, as has been our experience with all their previous conversion work to Blu-ray, that we've purchased.

I still love 'Rush' but sure wish it had the picture quality that Blu-ray can display, if it's on the disc. It simply isn't on my copy and I am asking others what they are seeing on their Blu-ray disc. I suspect it simply isn't there, as it didn't appear to be in the digital projection theater version we watched, but wrote it off as possible setup problems at the theater. But, there was nobody (a projectionest) there to ask!

Absolutely...I really enjoyed this one, even more than I thought I would. It was also the perfect movie to test out the Audeze LCD-X headphones I just picked up last week. Everything from the background noise to the deep bass during the race scenes...all was very impressively rendered. Thumbs up for sure...glad you guys encouraged a viewing

Greetings Ralph smile.gif

This was a very engrossing film right from the start! and finished as well as it started. I found everything from the way it was filmed the music, acting and direction to be stellar. getting to the audio and video both were perfect in both proportion and fidelity here's one example the gritty nature only enhanced the mood (rare for me) as you can tell the wife and I had a great movie experience with "Rush" It was very well done wink.gif

Thanks for the review !

Okay, watched it last night and while I've never been a Formula One racing fan, this movie is very much worth seeing (especially the last half) because the story was intriguing, the AQ and PQ were top notch, and Ron Howard has aced another one. I'll be watching this film again very soon.

Thanks again for the review, Ralph!

Poetry, Ralph...this review of yours is just poetry...cheers! A good, good read indeed, thanks! cool.gif

Loved, loved, loved this one at the theater, both the wify and I! One of those movies that are good in every single way! Been waiting for its Blu-ray release and very much looking forward to the HT experience with both Rush and Gravity 3D! cool.gif

I noticed you gave the full 5 points to dialogue, and I agree, I distinctly recall Hemsworth's resonnating voice sounding superb at the cinema. I think this may just be the best example of clear, ear-pleasing dialogue in a film (YMMV). cool.gif

I may not be getting this as soon as people around the rest of the globe--residing in Mexico, where some titles take a while longer to come out--, but I am sure the wait will make it even more the gratifying... I recommend this film to EVERYONE! "Franin" Frank, enjoy, mate! smile.gif
