So it finally got dark enough for me to test out this set in a dark environment.
I am happy to say that there is almost no noticeable blooming. Especially when compared to my M Series.
I watched several scenes from Skyfall, specifically the fireworks when he is going to the asian casino and the scenes where he is tracking the sniper in the high rise building. Both of those are scenarios where there is a LOT of focused brightness surrounded by darkness.
On the M series the rest of the scene would get washed out due to the Halo and blooming. On the E Series the light was really focused while the rest of the scene stayed very black.
I tried to take a picture of it but my camera on my phone wasn't cooperating..
I am very impressed with this new E series and think they are now an outstanding value.
So I'm interested in any other impressions you have from your first night with your new E Series panel...
Did you get a chance to compare the image with local dimming OFF versus local dimming ON?
It sounds like you are very satisfied that the 2014 E Series is a superior image to the 2013 M Series, but I (and probably many of us) are surprised that your 40" E panel is delivering such a good image with only 5 horizontal local dimming zones. That's almost like an edge-lit approach to local dimming, so except for the change from light guides to full array LED, it's hard to fathom where the improvement could have come from.
Any more impressions or insights greatly appreciated...
