In the Panasonic booth, I found a side-by-side demo of the company's Studio Master Color and 4K Pure Direct features. Studio Master Color is said to reproduce 98 percent of the DCI/P3 color gamut, and 4K Pure Direct can accept 4:4:4 color. According to Panasonic, the P3 color gamut is mapped to Rec. 709 for Blu-ray and broadcast, but Studio Master Color can expand it back out to P3 fairly accurately. You can also choose to display other gamuts, such as 709, NTSC, and EBU.
On the left is a panel with Studio Master Color and 4K Pure Direct turned on accepting a YUV 4:4:4 signal, while the panel on the right has no Studio Master Color or 4K Pure Direct with a YUV 4:2:0 signal. Notice the richer, more saturated yellows on the left.
