Putting cables in fireplace wall -- ???...

We are going to replace our gas fireplace. We figure while it is open, why not hide the cords back there for our home theater. I was wondering though, what is the trusted way to do this? Would you need permits or something? Last thing you'd want is to void home insurance or something like that.

Thanks.

Best way - hire an electrician and pull permits to run an electrical outlet for behind the tv and a couple HDMI cables to run cable tv and video from your AVR. I'd also recommend running a cat5 or 6 cable for a smart tv (future proofing) some day - I find hard wired can be better than wireless.
