I am replacing my Denon AVR-5308ci (sans upgrade) that has always been used as a processor. Which one of the new(er) Denons with a minimum 7.1 and 3D capability do I need for my system?

-Two cinepro amps.
-7 klipsch speakers (2 as SB).
-2-svs powered subs.
-sony 3D bluray.
-oppo 3D bluray.
-toshiba HD DVD player.
-Denon 3800 DVD player.
-Monster HTPS 7000.
-Sony VPL-HW10 projector with 92-original hours on it (putting up for sale).
-Denon AVR-5308ci (internal amps never used; putting up for sale).

Thanks for any advice guys.smile.gif

Thanks for the reply, Can you give me some idea of what I will gain with either of those two, especially the X4000? Thanks.

If there is nothing wrong with the 5308 I would keep it.

The X4000 has pre-outs if you need them, Audyssey XT32,Sub Eq HT, 3D Passthrough, 4K upscaling, and a host of other things Denon lovers like. Hard to beat for the price if Denon is the AVR you want. Give jdsmoothie at the AVS Store a call or pm for a price.

Putting the differences in the amp sections aside, the x4000 will lack FREE Amp Assign and 11 channel processing. The x4000 is made in China and the 4520ci is made in Japan. The build quality on BOTH units isn't even going to come close to the 5308ci though. I kept my 5308ci and just paid the $1000 to upgrade it since I'm partially using the AVRs amps to drive some of the surround speakers. Where you'll benefit by getting the x4000 or 4520ci is 4K, 3D, and connectivity/streaming apps -- something your Oppo player will be able to do but you'll have a more complicated setup.

The 5308ci still fetches decent money on eBay, etc., so you'd probably be able to sell it, buy the x4000, and STILL have cash left over.

And either will be able to drive your speakers easily. Especially if you are keeping those amps to use also.
