Come on Toe ! do yourself a solid and buy the disc tongue.gif I for one Am glad I got cold feet and sent the Netflix copy back and did a blind buy cool.gif Ask yourself this would you settle for "Oblivion" in any other format then what you heard it in ? Also the rental is filtered at 16hz which is a handicap to the potential that this reaches down to and smoothly so wink.gif

No argument! tongue.gif However, I fully expected that the DD track would be the same mix as the DTS-MA so the only thing missing would be that added fidelity/quality and I could at least here the actual mix. I was surprised to read that the DD mix is actually slightly different (still have not seen any graph of it though, so not sure how different it is) and if I had known that before hand, I probably would have just blind bought it due to all the rave reports for audio. Having said all that, I cant imagine the DD mix was THAT much different vs the DTS-MA as many will attest to, it sounds fantastic and all the well know bass scenes ( Warning: Spoiler! (Click to show)
rocket launches, planet burning at the end, etc.....
) hit hard and just like I would expect looking at the graphs and reading the reports. I definitely did not hear any bloat though like the poster I responded to did and I was listening at a much louder volume, so it would have been more obvious if it was something in the track (maybe it was in the track though and I just missed it somehow).

I am planning on picking this up though and checking out the full MA track when I can find it used or on sale. Not only is the audio amazing, but the PQ is right up there as well and it all combines for a really fun HT experience IMO. cool.gif Definitely need to own it, but need to find it cheap before I pick it up.

I thought this was a great movie. Once again, glad I did not listen to imdb reviews.
This movie had some serious lfe also. My svs was lighting up like crazy and rattles I never heard before. I had to turn some levels down to tame things a little.

I thought the video was superb also. There were some scenes where I swore I was watching my plasma instead of my cheapie pj setup.

I may actually buy this one after my initial viewing from redbox rental

Is this due to the lossy format....maybe Ralph can chime in on this? Has anybody experienced this during that scene?

I experienced a similar issue on my REL T2 - it sounded like the subwoofer was going to get blown then later on I brought it up to my partner and he said it is supposed to sound crackly like that because that is how fire sounds. I too had the lossy version from Netflix

Mine sounded like it was going to come out of the baskets at the shuttle launches.
They made noises I never heard before for sure. My overload light was blinking like crazy too on my svs.

It was just too low and bloated I think. It felt amazing though.

You guys didn't have your subs levels set slight higher ? I noticed there are quite a few members that set there subs on the hot side.

On my receiver Pioneer VSX 33 I have subwoofer volume set at +1.5DB and xover at 150Hz since I am using Bookshelf Speakers and on the sub itself I have the LFE set 3/4 way

My subwoofer is sitting on a piece of carpet otherwise it will move across the laminate flooring

Mine are set a tad higher than audessy set them.
Where I set them is close to level match to slightly hot

I have to admit I have mine set where audyssey leaves them and I didn't experience what you guys experienced. Those particular scenes where you guys mentioned it sounded deep and strong ( was awesome ) The LFE must of been mixed hot for this blu ray. That's what could of caused it, but then again I could be wrong.

This movie was superbly done in the LFE/ ELF and I didn't bump the sub at all, the levels where as they should be for the on screen content ( in particular a rocket launch) and it was clean bass all the way down!

Glad to hear you enjoyed it smile.gif

I used my same shelf type curve that I use for all movies (about 8db hot 40hz on down) and it was fantastic. cool.gif

The rocket launch scene about an hour in had my roommates scared that the house would fall down, and that was only with an SVS PB10.

Good stuff for sure! cool.gif I also thought the Warning: Spoiler! (Click to show)
planet burning up scene near the end
was a fantastic LFE moment.

I was just getting on here to warn everyone about the DD track on the rental (what a load of crap) but I guess the APB's been put out. Never the less this was one of the most unbelievable displays of bass I've experienced, it made me proud to own an SVS, my pc12+ went so low it had things in my house vibrating off the walls that I never heard vibrate before. Can't wait to hear the HD track with the extra 2 channels.

Sure will Ralph, I could only imagine how your Ultra handled those super low sequences. I blame/give you credit for your "lesser capable subwoofer" warnings on reviews that made me upgrade to an SVS. Do you have the BASH or sledge amp version of the PB-13?

Thanks for the review, Ralph! cool.gif

Finally got around to watching Ender's Game last night. The audio and video were impressive but the story itself felt a bit weak for me. I'll be watching this one again in a few days to see if it strikes me differently the second go-around.

Thanks again...
