Paradigm Speaker Rattle-Vibration - Need Advice

In my home theatre I have a pair of Paradigm Monitor 11 V.6’s. I recently noticed that on one of them the bottom cone has a rattle or vibration to it at certain frequencies.

I used my Disney WOW disk to test different frequencies and the rattle seems most pronounced in the 125 Hz-20Hz range but also shows up in the 250 Hz-125Hz, 500 Hz-250 Hz and even a little in 1 Khz-500Hz range. But it is definitely at the lower frequencies where it is most pronounced in that bottom cone.

I am not an expert with speakers so my question is, what does this mean? Is the speaker ruined? Can the faulty cone be replaced? Is that something I can do or do I need to take it to my dealer? Does the whole speaker need to be replaced?

They have a five year warranty and are still covered I believe.

Any thoughts or advice would be much appreciated. I love these speakers and would really like to get this one repaired.

Thanks.

First thing I would do is remove the grill and check to see if the speaker
Is loose. If it is just tighten it up.

If it is nice and tight to the cabinet it may very well be a bad driver!

To check your driver, gently push on the cone of your woofer and midrange (not the tweeter) and if the driver is bad you will hear a scratching noise.
Also check the room.
I had a rattling/buzzing noise during some movies with lots of bass.
It turn out it was a door handle that was loose because the 2 screws holding it were loose.

Good luck in your hunting.

Check the feet or spikes for the cabinet too. The locking nut can loosen and rattle.

Thanks for the feedback posts. A few comments. I had my ear right up to the driver and the sound is definitely coming from in there. Also, it changes from intense to non-existent as the frequencies from the WOW disk change. I really think something is up with the driver.

I didn't know if one could purchase parts from Paradigm and replace.

I think my next step might be to call the dealer for their call on it.

To wrap this up, I took the speaker back to where I purchased it. They looked me up in their database and I was still within the warranty period. I left the speaker with them which they tested and determined there was indeed a bad driver. They ordered the part, installed it after it arrived and in about two weeks I was back up and running. Great experience all around, except for the bad driver in the beginning.
