2.35:1 on a budget. Need help

From reading many threads on this site I would like to ask what a good "budget" 2.35:1 setup would be.

First of all, I would assume the one would use the "zoom" method and then would need a budget screen and a projector with lens memory. With that in mind, I came up with an Elite 2.35:1 screen and the Panasaonic AE 8000U as good products at a good price. Are there any other options you guys would suggest? If one didn't mind manually zooming each time, then I suppose any budget projector like the BenQ W1070 would work right? Am I missing anything?

I am thinking about going with a 138" diagonal screen with a throw distance of 15' in a dedicate theater room.

Thanks

I use an Epson 8350 which I'm pretty content with. Manual zoom/shift. It's a pretty popular low-cost projector, with some quirks (most notably, the possibility of dust blobs rearing their head over time - though there are some folks who have successfully cleared them out with a minor disassembly and a can of compressed air).

Best bang for the buck projector with lens memory? JVC X35 or Panny AE8000U?

Unless you really need the extra lumens or put a high priority on 3D, the JVC will be the better unit. It will have better blacks with no dynamic iris involved. It is sharper. Colors are excellent. When I was looking at projectors the 55ES and the RS46 (x35) were the 2 I settled on. The lens memory of the JVC made it a better choice for my setup.

Thanks. I had the older JVC HD950 on a 2.35 screen and it was fantastic in my dedicated theater. My new set up will be similar so I am leaning toward the JVC X35 or the X500R (4910)

In my theater eyes in first row will be about 10 feet from the screen. Do you think it would be worth the extra money to get the X500R over the X35 for 4K upscaling? Would I need the 4K at this distance with scope via zoom?

We have to be closer than 6' to start to see pixels on our 130" 2.35:1 screen with our zoomed RS46 (X35). Unless you are going extremely large I doubt 10' would be a problem. The choice between projectors is tougher. The X500R brings some advantages to the table. Depending on your budget, I would probably go for the X35 and wait for the true 4K projectors to hit the mainstream price points. I'd be surprised if we are more than 5 years away from that happening.
