I know lots of you have the Graco HVLP sprayers. I started questioning my needle while I was putting it back together today...
Is the little rubber O-ring supposed to float free on the part of the needle that it's on in my picture? Or is is supposed to get pushed up onto the chamfered piece near the screw end? I swear I read something about the O-ring placement before, but I don't see it in the manual or online anywhere.
Do you have the Y-shaped plastic tool that came with the sprayer? One end of the tool is used to grab the edge of the brass nozzle (cap?). Once clipped over the cap, simply pull to remove. The other end of the tool has little teeth or prongs that slide over the 4-pronged star near the tip of the needle. Twist the Y-tool with the teeth engaged on the star and it should unthread. It will still sit tight inside the sprayer, but if you're careful to keep the teeth on the tool engaged, you should be able to slide the needle out. I haven't tried it without the tool, but I'm guessing once the needle is unthreaded, you could also slide it out with a pair of pliers.
Just an FYI for those that have this. Mine started leaking paint. When I called they said iirc sometimes that rubber ring degrades if left to soak in some cleaners (I hadn't) and they sent me new internals which fixed it.
