Ok guys, 2 Pioneer sp-fs52 towers or Take Claasic 5.1?

What would sound better in your opinion for 90% tv and movies, 10% music? The Energy take classic 5.1 speakers with Yamaha or Denon receiver, or 2 of the Pioneer SP-FS52 tower speakers with the same receiver? Obviously I could add a sub and center channel down the line with the Pioneer setup, but I'm curious what you guys think about just the towers vs. the classics for mostly movies and tv. Thanks!

While I have the Takes I haven't heard the Pioneers but I think I can safely say the Pioneers are better speakers. AVR choice would need to be more specific than just brand and there's other brands you could consider too (Pioneer, Onkyo). I'd have to have a sub, though with those Pioneers (not a Pioneer sub, tho) but hard to suggest specifics again without what prices you're looking at or budget you've got....or size room, or connectivity needs, or what you're using them for (movies/music), etc.

16x18 room. But, I only use 1/2 to 2/3 of the room as my theater/TV space. L couch dividing the room to sit closer to the 64". Usage will be 98% TV/movies. I agree the Pioneers with a sub and center would be awesome, but that would be down the line, and I'm really wanting to stop spending money on this project at some point. Ha. Thus I was considering the Energy 5.1 speakers, and just calling it a day. Plus the wife would love the Energys because of their form factor. Thanks for your replies!

If you have the Energy speakers around the TV area and not that large they will most likely do the trick to give you that little bit of surround sound. Only struggle might be that 8" subwoofer in your small room. As bass sound waves are omni directional so they will go throughout the whole room.

You might be very happy with the Energy's for your viewing.

I started this hobby with a $400 budget max for surround sound and I was very happy with my set-up and still would be today if I didn't than try out bigger speakers and hear what I was missing. Energy's are a great starting point but realize you are making a conccession by settling now.

If I look back now with the money I spent on my full system I could have saved money by just slowly building my current ideal set-up from the start.

I hear ya. That's why I was considering the pioneer towers and a receiver for starters. Maybe the towers and a sub. Just can't get passed all of the great reviews for the energy set and the fact that the wife would be very pleased. Wonder how much it would cost me to send the energy package back to Amazon if I don't like em?

They(women) are always please with small looking set-up's. Its a decent little system. I had a Polk RM6750 5.1 set-up which I thought was a great set-up I still would have it today if my buddy didn't let me borrow his "larger" bookshelf's(Polk Monitor 30's). Now those speakers are not even as large as my current speakers(Polk RTi4's) but there was an immediate difference in sound quality that I feel in love in so I sold my rm6750's to a friend who never had surround sound and he has a small room. He absolutely loves that setup.

Maybe start with the SP-BS22 Bookshelves and a subwoofer like the Dayton Sub-1000 .

That will be a nice compromise to the towers for your wife. Than you can always add towers later or just get another bookshelf set

The Pioneer towers would be a better choice. I'd take the towers over the little satellite speakers every time. Unless you've got space problems go with the Pioneers.

I agree. Start with this. Add on later.

Thanks again for the replies. Yeah I was hoping to avoid wall mounting the pioneer bookshelf speakers. Thus the towers. Energy's would be easy to mount without much wall damage. I have to keep reminding myself that either setup would blow away the tv speakers. I asked this over in the receiver forum, but what would you guys pair up with these speaker options? Yamaha V375/377, or Denon E300? Guess I need to decide how serious I am gonna get with this HT stuff as far as the speaker choice. Towers would be amazing and a part of a future insane setup for me at least, where the Energy's would probably be very nice and I could just set em and forget em. Although an ultimate hit in overall sound quality that I would just have to know and accept. Again, I appreciate the advice.

Denon would be my choice

If you are looking for wall mounting bookshelfs I tried my Polk RTi4's wall mounted with using a 16lb dry-wall anchor . I easily just patched the hole with putty before i left my apartment and got no complaints.

Yep. Thanks again guys! Any other opinions are welcome.

Get a good sub with them next. Those Pioneer towers definitely perform above their price point, and they would benefit for movie watching for having a good sub paired with them.
