Hi Forum members, I bought Denon AVR X 4000 and I have my internet router in other room. I know this receiver doesn't have wifi and I was wondering if wifi extender will help in my situation. Appreciate anyone's help regarding this
An extender won't give a non-wireless device wireless capability. It extends the range of wireless, is all. (At the cost of 50% of your wireless bandwidth). I'd keep my wifi clear and go with a powerline adapter to bridge the receiver to your router.
You can use another wireless router set to bridge mode such as one of the routers listed below ....
Bridge Router (connected to AVR provides wireless connection to the home's wifi router)
Cisco WRT-54G
TRENDnet TEW-640MB
Airport Extreme
Airport Express
Linksys WET610N
Netgear N300
Netgear WN2000RPT - 4 port
Netgear WN2500RP
D-Link DAP-1522
Also note there is a dedicated thread just for Denon E/X Owners that includes very helpful information in posts #3-6 to include the post below on Home networking ...
I have 2 Net Gear N300's, one for my WIFI and the second one to use as a WIFI receiver for my Denon X4000. I have yet to get it to work because number one I am not the one setting it up and number two my trusted wire heads have been unable to do it either. Can you help with settings? Both of my helpers are extremely knowledgeable with internet, computer operations and internet settings. One is one of my students who is the leader of my CyberPatriot team. Yes a student, but very knowledgeable in CISCO/ect due to a friend of his that is advanced in CISCO and setting up LANS. Maybe he should ask him. The second is the Major I co-teach Air Force JROTC with and he is also very informed. I am not. I am an Apple user so all of the stuff they talk about is above my pay grade. Anyhelp with settings would be greatly appreciated. it appears the N300 is not bridgeable...
NetGear setups should generally be plug 'n play, however, the 2nd N300 must be specifically set to "bridge" mode as it seems you are using it in that capacity.
I've never seen it happen. I've got two in my house and I've setup 3 other homes with them. No one has ever had a problem. I've had mine for about 5 years now.
