Memphis, TN - HDTV - Page 13

Dirk,
I noticed you mentioned you are with pegasus? I'm not sure what that is but I did remember on another thread that guys have successfully signed up for the new HD package: heres a quote from there:
called Pegasus at 8:00 AM and added the package without a problem.

"Best part is that I'm a Select Choice customer and didn't have to upgrade to Total Choice. They didn't even mention it and I had the CSR read my new bill to me just to make sure that they hadn't changed it without telling me.

So that's good news for some of us.

Also noticed that the signal strength for trans 8 and 10 on Sat C improved from 71 to 81."

I hope this helps its under the HDTV programming thread "tried to sign up for the new hd package" or something like that.

Thanks for the input johnny, but if you will glance at the HD programing you would see that many of us poor sould have our own thread about Peagasux and their lack of the HD programing.

I think the guy who got the HD and didnt have to upgrade was real lucky, probably got in to the call center before the bottom fell out and some one at D* or P* (dont know who is to blame yet) said no more sign ups for P* coustomers.....................

I hear alot about them and their great shows, but I have yet to ever see the station in sd or hd..........................

The only way to see WB programming in Memphis is to either watch on WPTY after hours or become a Dish Network customer and subscribe to their Superstation package which includes 3 WB affiliates (New York, Chicago, and LA). Unfortunately, there is currently no way to get it in HD.

The WB is not an also ran; they just don't have a full-time affiliate in Memphis. IMHO they blow UPN away in terms of the quality of their primetime programming. As a matter of fact, I probably watch more WB programming than any other network.

Johnny I'm getting WREG just fine.

Is anyone esle's WPTY seemed more stretched in the past couple of days?? Mine even seems shifted more to the left of the screen.

I'm usually not home during the day, does anyone know if any local stations broadcast in digital pretty much 24 hours a day?
Yes, I've noticed the same thing. They're obviously playing with thier gear...
Back to th WB..........I know that Memphis is not a New York or L.A. when it comes to number of viewers, but why cant WB get a full time affiliate in this area??

Looks like a good market to me.................

I think we should have the WB aired real time here too. They have a lot of good shows. From a couple of responses I got, the WB is *supposed* to move to WLMT in the fall, but it is still wont be HD cause its starting at 10. Now thats the word that I got from someone at WPTY.
If that happens then WLMT should just move the WB programming to primetime and put the UPN programming after hours. I think very few people would complain.

When is TWC going to give us ESPN-HD?
I bet TWC will give us all they can give us, in regards to HD content, when the higher ups figure out what to charge for it. I'm betting they will charge more than it would cost to have Direct HD, because of the convenience factor. I guess we'll see...
What happenned to ABC HD on TWC?
I work an odd schedule (3pm-11pm) which leaves some odd hours to watch HD content. What HD content plays on the weekends or after 11pm over the air in Memphis?
You can check titantv.com for program listings, including which programs are in HD. But, I think the only thing on after 11pm that is HD at the present time, is The Tonight Show with Jay Leno.

How is everyone in Memphis after the storm??

I hope everyone is ok.
dirk1843, It was the first time I ever saw a BFI can fly... Didn't know they could do that. LOL! We lost two trees in the yard but other than that we're ok...
Doing ok. Took me an hour to make it to work from the Wolfchase area to Collierville, around noon. For anyone who wants to go sight see, I suggest a drive down Walnut Grove between 240 and White Station. I had to get off there from the interstate, and it was amazing for as bad as it was. I haven't been able to check to see if my dish was knocked off due to the high winds yet. My wife works at a hospital and they are using backups generators. I hope the power comes up quick. Hopefully the storms that they are predicting tonight wont be near as bad.
Since I don't have any power yet, can anyone check to see if the locals are able to send out their digital feed right now? I know the feed I'm getting at work for CBS and NBC are really bad right now. Just wondering

I work at a NAPA store in Arkansas, and out warehouse is over on Appling.

Does anyone know of alot of damage in the area, we werent able to get them on the phone all day.
I had an upstairs window sucked out of the house. Frame and all. I've already had a new one put back in. After seeing pictures of Memphis, I was lucky.

Anyone getting the audio feed on WREGDT? I'm not for a few days now...
Daniel,

I had the problem prior to the storm....However, I had conversations with the engineering staff at WREG and we were able to track it down to an upgrade they did and my SAMSUNG box is not able to decode the new audio signal, so Samsung is going to swap me out for a new one. I haven't tried to aquire a signal since the storm.

No. I can only guess its because of the storm knocking out there power. They might've had other damage. Just a guess, not sure how good it is. Still not getting WMC and WPTY doesn't seem to be on as much as it has been.
Its getting to be the end of July and WHBQ was supposed to have their new antenna up and running by the end of this month. Does anyone have any contacts or info at the station sso we can ask about this?

You got me on this rumor. I asked them and received the following response from their engineer.

"Bad rumor - it will probably be late this fall before the antenna is up. We will still be low power then, but it should be high enough to cover the surrounding four counties, so that should solve most of the reception problems. We are preparing the tower for high power antennas as part of the work we're doing this fall, so that when we do go to high power it won't have to strengthen the tower again.

One bit of good news - Fox is going to 720P HD soon. I'm not sure about the details of how they will get the signal to us, or exactly when it will start, but it is a major change from the commitment to 480P they had up to now. I'm planning for us to pass it along unchanged once they start, so we may be at 720P when the new transmitter site is up and running this fall."

So it looks like much later this year BUT they're going 720P as soon as it's available! Bad news and GOOD news at the same time.

Any news is better than no news...........
That is good news. Thanks for the info. Has anyone else noticed the wierd schedule that WMC-DT broadcasts? I was at home last night and watched some of the news at 6pm, but when I was changing channels, not watching :-), for Love or Money, it wasn't on. And since I don't usually get home till Leno, its only on maybe half of the time.
For those who have TW, how many HD channels do you have? Do you get the locals in digital or HD all the time? Like getting Leno in HD when it isn't available OTA? Just curious.
WHBQ at high power will be good news to me. 720p is great as well. Although I would have been happy with 480p with enough power, which would have been better than nothing at all, as it has been for most of us.
Johnny C,

I havent been able to get sound from WREG for weeks. I also have a Samsung (sir-ts160). I am getting a solid signal of around 90. All other channels are fine. How did you go about getting Samsung to send you a new box? Any help would greatly appreciated.
STP,
Man you don't know how good it was to here someone else is having the same problem...the CSR's at Sammy think I'm a nut! Here's the low-down, I stopped getting the audio feed when the station upgraded the PSIP. I talked with Tom Hayes (543-2323) he's a nice guy that knows his stuff. I then called Sammy back and gave them the details that Tom shared with me. They tried to blame it on WREG but I insisted it was a sammy problem, I then added that my neighbor who has a SIR151 rcvr was getting an audio feed, so they finally agreed to SERVICE the box but I said NO they would replace the box...all they have is refurbed boxes which was no biggie...so I had to pay $600 bucks (refundable) to have them ship a box to me and then send mine back...here's where it get's interesting...I got the box 2 days ago, took mine down and put the new one on.. and BINGO I get WREG audio, things look good, I look on the program guide and its from San Antonio...so I go to setup change the zip code to 38017 it reboots and guess what... no freaking audio from WREG...I'm livid now...and to beat it all the picture is now pixelating everytime the picture moves...so I put the new one in the box and call sammy back so I've been waiting for 2 days now for a SENIOR tech to call me back. SO I am going to try the San Antonio zip code when I get a chance so I'll let you know...But PLEASE call Samsung @ 18005222946 and get to complaining!
