Sorry. I wasn't clear enough in my post.
After the "Digital Migration" Memphis area Comcast subscribers were told that if they did not have any kind of set top box on a cable outlet that they would only get a minimal number of analog channels. This didn't include the previously available digital signals of the over the air (OTA) channels available in the area, e.g. 3.1 in HD for WREG.
As promised when my neighborhood received the "Digital Migration" only around 20 analog channels were visible on a television without any kind of set top box. My response was to go buy another TiVo for the bedroom and settle for the few analog channels in the kitchen.
What I discovered yesterday was that by rescanning on the kitchen TV I was able to receive the expected analog channels AND
40 digital channels including the HD digital versions of the OTA stations.
I apologize for the confusion because my list didn't include the analog channels nor all of the 40 digital channels.
My point is that at the moment in several neighborhoods
Comcast subscribers can still receive a number of digital and HD channels WITHOUT
any type of adapter.
