Signal is in the 60's, higher from them, that I've had in a while.

I'm not getting anything on 52-2 right now. Are you sure you don't mean 52-1?? I don't even know how to test the signal for subchannels if you even can.

SNL isn't HD.

Obviously.
When I put in 52-1 the screen would kick me to 52-2.
I was getting in the low 20's for a signal from channel 5 (the past few weeks) until I checked last night.

Did anyone catch the Grizzlies special that was on PAX and then WMC last night? It was unwatchable when they were showing Jerry West and Hubie Brown. Not because Hubie is just plain old, but they were constantly moving the camera in and out, from side to side, and then out of focus. It was horrible.

Your user name reminded me of something I wanted to ask. Does anyone else who uses Tivo have this problem? I record Reba, What I like about you, and Grounded for life on Friday nights from WLMT. I am using an s-video out cable. On only these shows there is a yellow tint. Everything else I watch looks fine. Does anyone else have this problem?

I also Tivo Reba and What I like about You. I have always noticed that the color of these programs are bit more orange/yellow. I also find this on the Surreal Life (i know it's a horribly trashy show, but I love to get in the gutter). I have always assumed that is a WB thing, or at least an issue with the affiliate, I don't regularly watch anything else on that channel though.

Has anyone outside of downtown Memphis received the Memphis Fox digital signal (WHBQ-DT #53/ 53-1)? After reviewing this thread, it looks like they're (finally) moving their transmitter. Does anyone know if they are powered up !!! I have received all the other networks from day one - - live in Cordova, near Shelby Farms - - but I've never seen a digital Fox signal !!!
I actually emailed the engineer last week to see if there was any new progress. He said that they are still waiting on approval to move the transmitter so there basically is no new news. He also said that he didn't know about D* carrying the FOX ED channel. If FOX didn't let their stations know about it then thats a little odd.

As far as getting WHBQ-DT, you aren't gonna get it where you are. The tower they are using now isn't strong enough to reach you. But once they do move it you'll definalely be close enough.

Thanks MX6. When I spoke to the Fox engineer last year; he said they had a 75ft antennae on the top of the building transmitting at 200 watts - - no wonder none of us in the "sticks" could receive a signal. By the way, bought a Samsung 50 inch DLP to replace my "old" Samsung rear projection HDTV in late Jan from Circuit City (Wolfchase). Went down today and asked for a price match since the sets have dropped over $500 (internet site). He gave me a $450 refund even though it had been more than 30 days. I can't get over how much that chain has changed in the past few years !!! What a fabulous picture on the new Samsung !

I'm a Samsung DLP owner in Memphis, using Time Warner (the Pace STB) and getting terrible reception on ABC HD (Pixelation and static on sound), All other channels are great. Any one else having a similar problem?

Moose;
Sorry I can't help you. I'm Directv and OTA. I gave up on TWC four years ago (xcept for Road runner). ABC HD over the air is great. Best of luck.

Has anyone heard if/when TW here is going to come out with an HD-DVR? I know a couple of friends who have TW and are looking to get HD but want to keep the DVR who have asked me about it.

Say someone wants to have both a HD and a DVR hooked up to their tv. I'm guessing that the DVR has 2 cables running into it like a D* Tivo. How many cables are inputed into the HD box? If its only 1, could one of the lines be split to run into both the DVR and the HD box? So instead of having 3 lines can only 2 be used?

They would still use the DVR in s-video and the HD component.

According to a TW Engineer I spoke with, it's right around the corner! Will be introduced within 60 days.
Hey Moose. Place a service call with TW and ask them to come check your wiring/signal. I had to do this 3 times before a guy came and ran new wire. The first yahoo put a signal booster on, the second took it off and added nothing else. The third guy was a contractor from out of town and he came over on a Saturday. My existing cable was run just under the sod when the house was built and had since been cut in several places due to landscaping projects. We ran the new cable up under the eve of the house and all is well now. Good Luck!
Been there, done that! The signal is strong, cable is ok?
Dilday TV on Winchester has had one of the TWC HD DVRs since January in their showroom, it's really neat but the firmware doesnt activate the dvi or firewire outputs yet

Moose,
I have noticed that ABC for me will pixelate every now and then. I have not contacted TW about it. Discovery HD is solid. During the Grammys Wreg pixelated a little bit, too.

Hey guys just to let you know that there is a good chance that Memphis could be shown in HD twice this weekend. Friday at 11:30 am and then again Sunday if they win. Hopefully they will win at least 1 game.

I'm in Jonesboro Arkansas trying to get the Memphis high def channels. I talked to this antenna guy that advertises high def antennas and he told me that all of the high def channels in Memphis were broadcast on UHF. Is this true? If so, it would definitely affect my antenna choices.

Yes

Hey Randy, good the hear from someone else from Arkansas on this fourm.

I am in trumann myself (no flames please, trying to move ) and I have been getting ATSC OTA from Memphis for almost 2 years using a radio shack vu-190.

This is a combo anteanna, and if i had to do it again, i might go with a uhf only, but I wanted it for FM and backup NTSC OTA.

I think your main obstacale will be height.................good luck and let us know how it comes out.

Finally, we have someone from Jonesboro on the forum! Hurray! A hearty welcome to you Randy, from Paragould.

"all of the high def channels in Memphis were broadcast on UHF. Is this true? "

Yes, this is true for now. We don't know yet what the future will hold. But our local Jonesboro station is VHF channel 9, however don't let that stop you from using a UHF only antenna. I have a CM 4228 pointed at Memphis, and can still get a great signal from KAIT with that antenna. And the KAIT signal is hitting the antenna from 90 degrees from it's heading.

BTW if you want to discuss things KAIT check out this thread:

Actually, several years ago when I first signed up for satellite television I requested waivers from KAIT and the CBS, NBC and FOX stations in Memphis. KAIT was the only station to refuse the waiver. So, I was actually hoping to get the ABC high definition station in Memphis and not watch KAIT. However, right now KAIT is the only off air station that I can get in high definition and I get that with simple, indoor rabbit ears. Now I can't go back to normal TV. Thanks for the information on the antennas. I think I might try a UHF only model.

So what did everyone think about the PQ today? I personally thought it was absolutely horrible. I saw some of the game OTA and some TW and it was bad at both. Even the SD games were looking bad. Not only am I disappointed in the outcome, but also that we recieved such a bad PQ here.
Anyone else not getting 52-1 NBC anymore? Mine seems to have gone down the other day and I've been getting no signal since.
I'm not getting it either. Missed Leno in HD last night. :-(
post #690 of 5998
Nothing here since the weekend.
