Onkyo/Integra Ugrade ?

I have the Integra 9.1. I am contemplating the purchase of the upgrade package. Can someone comment on the sound differences from this upgrade? I am trying to determine if it is worth doing the upgrade at this time.

Darren,

I upgraded my 989 a few months ago while Onkyo was offering the 200.00 discount along with another 50.00 discount if you already purchased the DPL2/DTS-ES upgrade.

For me it was money well spent. I use THX-Ultra2 mode on all my DD 5.1 sources and I really enjoy the added surrounds. The upgrade also fixed the DD 5.1 dropouts that I was having on Discovery HD and a few times on 5.1 moves on HBO.

Darren,

I have an upgraded Integra Research RDC-7 preamp and IMO the upgrade is a waste of money. It was overpriced at $300 and it would be crazy to pay $500 for it.

THX Ultra 2 is crap, you can play 5.1 sources in 7.1 on your Integra without it and it sounds MUCH BETTER. THX Ultra 2 compresses the sound and reduces the dynamics of the recording.

The sound in both stereo and surround is the same as before the upgrade.

Onkyo is fixing the audio dropouts under warranty, see www.***************.com for more details.
