Interesting article, Bill. I particularly like the comment about cable monopolies. I still believe deregulation was a bad move for cable. Prices, skyrocketed, customer service went south, and signal quality deteriorated dramatically. Many of the local franchises are completely powerless to do anything about it, and the cable companies know it. The telcom manager for the city of Fort Lauderdale told me that he tried to get another provider in to replace AT&T, but no other cable company even wanted to bid on the contract. Until there is an even playing field (you can buy your own STB, select the programming you want, and chose the provider you want) there won't be any real competition and no real choices for consumers.
