Felt/Velvet Frame Cover?

Thread Starter
I have a Sony VPL-VW10HT and I'm trying to decide on which screen is best.

I have seen some screen frames covered with a black flocking/felt/velvet like material. Is this kind of covering really doing anything beneficial and is the cost worth it? Which companies make these kind of frames?

Both Stewart and DaLite have this type of coverings on their frames...the incremental cost is not that much (in the order of less than $200).

There is a benefit in that you don't get picture/light reflections off the screen frame that can be distracting. (I only want to see one copy of the movie at a time.)

Tom,

Dennis is correct. When the velvet is added to the frame it absorbs more of the light than does a standard frame. The advantage to this, as he mentioned is the fact that you get no reflection off the frame. Also, when you have a good crisp black edge to the picture, your eye fools you into thinking that you see better contrast. That is why it is so important to have a black border around any screen.

Have Fun !

Depends on screen size ... it's $317 for a 66" X 118" Stewart screen
