Los Angeles, CA - OTA - Page 244

I'm watching South Africa v. Mexico on KMEX, but HD had some problems and they have had SD instead for a while now. I posted on a national thread to see if this just a local problem.

Also, I don't know much Spanish, but the sound seems to be a few seconds behind the picture.

Edit: It's a local issue.
Edit #2: HD is back...

Same problem here.

Another problem is that Windows Media Center, Dish Network, and Sezmi do not have the 7am games listed on their guides. Seems to be Univision sent the wrong info. I just emailed Sezmi about it. I'm sure they'll fix it soon.

Hmmph! Last night, ION 30.1's The Fugitive movie was in SD (yuck) and not even HD. Before and after that movie were HD. I wonder if this movie was never in HD or something.

It was in HD on the 35 mm prints they showed in the theater.

Hmm, weird. I wonder why SD then. I posted in ION's forum and sent a webform e-mail.

Well, I guess KCAL-9 is providing a free test pattern for everyone that wants to tweak with their tv setting.

In other words, KCAL-9 is down as far as programming goes.

edit: and it just came back with a view from the Mt Wilson towers. The news crew is saying they were hit with a pretty major power outage and were out for about an hour.

A 35mm film print is not a good indicator that a movie in HD video is also available. And a version for broadcast (edited for content, time and commercial breaks) is yet another issue.

Regards

What's the news on 11.1? I was able to get it quite stable in Aliso Viejo, CA until sometime shortly after the last 24 episodes. Did a re-scan and found the 11.3 that'll hold me over, but HD would be nice.

KCBS was affected as well (makes sense, since they share a facility) -- they were running audio-only for a while. Also, the feeds from both stations to the cable/satellite providers were completely out; DirecTV had their "no need to call us, we swear it's not our fault" slide up.

Have a look back at my post showing weaker signals for 11 and 13.

9.1, 11.1 and 13.1 OK here.

I was having a bad time with 11 and 13 for several days there, on all but my best ATSC receivers. Things seem to be back to normal now.

There could be other forces at work .... I haven't had time to extensively troubleshoot.

KTTV and KCOP have completed the installation of new antennas and transmitters to support higher effective radiated power on both channels; 115Kw on KTTV and 120Kw on KCOP. In fact, yesterday both stations operated at their new higher power from 3pm until midnight to test the new RF plumbing on-air. Both stations will need a few more days to fully prepare for continuous high-power operation, but that should come within a week or so. My personal experience confirmed that both stations at the new power levels are considerably easier to receive in areas where reception was previously difficult.

So, please be patient just a little longer. We're almost there!

Thanks,

Hi!

It did a few times for about a second or so in the all the games I saw at home and at someone's place (think he uses TWC RR). My signal strength ranged from 75% to almost 100%. I don't recall any video dropouts, only small audio dropouts.

Did anyone else notice that too? I hope tonight's game won't have that problem.

Thank you in advance.

Not dropouts so much as muting when the on-court mics pick up profanity. Might damage the children if they hear someone swearing, even if it's less than what they hear every day on the playground .

Oh the missing audio are censorship? Ah, OK. That's better than actual digital feed dropouts!! How many seconds delayed from the live game?
Most live events in the US have a 7 second delay to allow for censorship.

... or has anyone else noticed that any recordings of KCBS programs via OTA always have a small (very brief) glitch/dropout anywhere within the first 1 minute after the program begins during playback? I've noticed this occurring regularly during the 2009-2010 KCBS TV season. I have seen this glitch/dropout on KCBS recordings made by both the MyHD MDP-130, and the Dvico Fusion5 USB Gold. For playback, I have played KCBS files with TheaterTek, VLC, and with the MyHD card, and all of them show the glitch/dropout. I record OTA in the Los Angeles area. So I was just wondering if anyone else here has seen the same. Thanks

I have never seen that problem with my Big Bang Theory's season 3 episodes recordings. I even checked my last recording (not season finales) from 5/17/2010. I even skimmed through the recording CSI: Miami new episode since I record five more minutes before 9:00 PM PT and after 10:00 PM PDT since stations' times are never accurate and sometimes like to be early or late.

I am using two Broadband Technologies Air2PC-ATSC-PCI HDTV tuner cards (DVB; revision 2; connected to a rabbit ear antenna) in my old, updated Windows XP Pro. SP3 PC.

Analog 27, KNLA-LP, seems to have called it a day. Those who haven't bought their converter box yet can still enjoy 6 (KSFV-CA Guadalupe Radio), 25 (KNET-LP Home Shopping Network) and 67 (KHTV-LP Home Shopping Network again).

Three channels and nothin' on.

Last weekend analog 6 CW, was coming in strong from San Diego/TJ. It was a snowy picture using my CM 4228HD antenna, but came in clear when I connected my FM dipole to the TV. Some of the other analog stations from TJ have been pretty strong lately.
Yes,

Lately channels 12-21-45-57 have been strong probably cause of trop. I get them snowy with an indoor antenna up here in Whittier.

KNET-LP finally got their STA approved Tuesday for digital flash cut on 25.

Could be some antenna work to get some of this moving.

Co-owned KHTV on 67 has an app. for digital operation on 27.

KLAU-LD 66 is still MIA as best I can figure.

K55KD on 57 appears to have been silent since sister station KTAV fired up digital on 46 in recent weeks.

Yes, yes I have. I thought it was just some glitch with the aging MyHD 100/130 cards I have. As, I don't see the same problem with the same programs recorded OTA via S3 TiVo.
It's very annoying but I get over it quick and enjoy the rest of the program uninterrupted.

Teeps, thank you for the confirmation. To add more info, I do not see this problem when watching KCBS live, through the TV itself. But yes, you are right - it's a pretty minor problem to live with, I was just wonderin'

i saw a power increase in my signal meter about a week after this post.....but since then the power seems to have gone back to before....i am wondering what is the status of the stations upgrade now? have they started transmitting at full power full time?
KVEA - at full power (1000/500kW Elliptical)

Looking at the spectrum analyzer over the weekend, KVEA - RF39/52.1 is now at full power.

I know this is a Spanish station, but I would be interested in hearing any new reception reports on it. It seems comparable to KPXN or KNBC, but isn't as strong as KTLA or KBEH, etc. at least not at my condo in S. OC.

Thank you,

I also checked 11 & 13 over the weekend, but they had not been raised to full power yet.
