POLL: Who's Using High Gain?  

Stewart Silver 4.0 Micro-Perf 60x107 (fixed) with Zenith PRO900X.
Absolutely love it. It isn't perfect but 95% of the time it more than fits the bill. Very high contrast ratio. Projector is floor mounted.

M2500 Draper Cineperm wall mounted. It's gain has been variously reported at 2.3 - 2.5. Seems to do a very good job, especially for the large images I prefer. No hotspotting to speak of, contrast good. I've been happy with it.

Dalite Hi-Power 2.8 gain 92x52" with ceiling-mounted CRT. Normally this isn't a recommended surface for these conditions, but I have a low (7ft.) ceiling in my basement HT and the viewing level is 44", almost past the centerline of the screen. Since the screen is retro-reflective the brightness uniformity is amazing, especially after Guy Kuo's masking tweak. The max. off-axis for any seat is 20 deg. vert. and horiz. to any point on the screen. The great part about this screen is that even outside of its 25 deg. cone it is at least 1.0 gain due to its unique microfine bead structure.

Draper M2500 92x69" material on a custom frame. I notice the well known vertical streaks, which is annoying on bright scenes. Also some hotspotting, but that doesn`t bother me to much. Projector is a ceiling mounted Barco Graphics 800.

I'm using a Stewart retractable tab-tensioned microperf screen, 92" diagonal, 16x9 format. This model is delivers 1.7 gain.

(And I notice the microperf rather more than when I saw it in the store!)

I just moved from a house where I installed the da-lite Pearlescent (2.8 gain as I recall). I picked it due to a large screen with an older 8" crt.

the gain was helpful, but I always was irritated by the "sparkles" on bright white (i.e. skyline scenes, white buildings) areas.

Won't buy again as I bought more lumens (DLP) and am going lower gain screen.

I have a Stewart Videomatte 200 (gain 1.8) 87"W x 49"H screen and a Dwin HDP-500 with Faroudja DVP-2200. On flat fields there is a little hotspotting and on a menu screen with magenta rectangles (Like the AV Science forum screens) that go across the screen a little color shift can be seen in these bars. On normal video I get great performance and no noticable video artifacts.
