I spoke to a level 2 tech this morning and got a call back from engineering a couple hours later. Bottom line: they're working the problem, and they promised to take it back if they can't fix it.

Did Sony promise you a refund if they could not solve this problem? If so was it a level II tech?

I have just started to get OTA HD and was wondering something. When you get the audio dropouts does your picture pixilate. The picture would be fine until the audio starts to go in and out of DD2.0.

The fellow from engineering told me that they are still in the process of identifying the cause of all this, and at this point they're not sure if it's fixable via a firmware update or not. I think that Sony/LG is looking at a very widespread problem here, and if they can't fix it with a firmware update a recall may be in order.
Has anyone tried changing the audio output to PCM stereo? With my Ref50 it's better in that mode, but there are still dropouts. They're fewer and farther between, but it's still not right.

I have both versions (520 & 200), and have never had a drop once after the DD signal is aquired. Which would almost make you think there may be compatibility issues with some rcvr's...

The case with the Panasonic DTV tuner I mentioned before was the DD output worked A-OK with some decoders, but others could not handle the output without dropouts. I don't know if it was ever determined that the output was bad, but I think it was determined specific DD chip sets did have a problem with that specific output. The only solution was to get a compatible decoder...

FWIW, I've had audio dropouts on HDNet with every receiver I've used, I think its an HDNet > DirecTV problem.

I'm disturbed that more HD SAT 520 owners have not come forward about audio dropouts.

I suspect what that means is that only a small percentage of users are experiencing the problem.
