Need Advise for my first DIY Screen

Thread Starter
I read few posts here and get some idea for DIY screen.
1) I am still not decide to do a screen with one ply-wood or do a canvas, then apply paint on it.
2) I want to get a gain around 1.5 ,What is the best one between Behr SnowField and Ultra pure white.

Thanks for reply.

I could be wrong but I think any homemade screen of better than 1 gain will be hard to achive. I would think you would need glass or metal bits to get gain. I am using a pre-primed art canvas over a brick molding frame with one center support. This is a 16:9 100" screen with no defects that I can see. Cost about $55 to make.
With that said, after seeing the Sharp 9000 projecting on a 100" Greyhawk, that is now my screen of choice. Only problem is the cost. My projector is a Boxlight 455/LP340.

lemt,

You should get 1.4 gain from the Behr Ultra White. Kal used black out material painted with this and then compare it to samples he had from Stewart to determine the gain. I have seen his screen and it is excellent.

The Behr Ultra White comes in different finishes. The one most people end up preferring is the Eggshell finish - the Semi-Gloss may hay higher gain but it also has hotspots and is more difficult to apply evenly.
