DLP does not cause overly hot whites. In most cases, it's due to the fact that they were designed for presentation (clear section on the wheel).
Have you seen one of the theatre DLP projectors they used to project Toy Story II, Star Wars Episode 1, etc.? I can assure you they are way more than 2000 lumens.
You can also purchase 3-chip DLP projectors from NEC/Christie Digital/etc. that are a lot more brighter than 2000 lumens.
As for 1-chip, I don't think it's going to be easy because 2/3 of the light must be absorbed by the color-wheel at any given time. It'd be impossible to make it too bright.
