TI announces 16:9 DLP projectors with 848x480 resolution - Page 3

OK, so does this chip, in effect, close the gap somewhat between SVGA and XGA when you're mainly using the projector for DVD and digital cable? I am looking at an install that would have an 8' wide 16:9 screen that I would be sitting 12' away from. I've not considered SVGA because I don't want to see pixels--period. Would this new projector fill the bill? Is the scaler improved so I could do a decent job with a quality progressive scan DVD player?

Oh, also I will have a Panamorph!

Just recieved this e-mail thought ya'll would like to read it.
I think TI is trying hard to get DLP to the masses even if that means the lowest common denominator. (joe six pack) But that will hopefully bring down the prices for us "PURIST".

Suffice it say, so far as the 1280x720 chip in FP
products is concerned: we know that there is a demand
out there, and it would seem to make sense for us to
have a plan to fulfil it sooner rather than later...
Such a development would be very much in line with our
strategy of delivering the best image you can get -
whether it's in the boardroom, at the cinema or in your
home.

Yes, the Sony 10HT has been well reviewed. However, we
think that we're very strongly positioned to maintain
our leadership in image quality, convenience (e.g.
size, weight) and competitiveness. Although not
directly relevant to your interest in home theater, we
expect to be showing some pretty ground-breaking stuff
at Infocomm next month. Also, look out for some
announcements in the coming few weeks of things we're
doing to ensure that we stay out front in terms of the
industry's best combination of high brightness and
small size/low weight.
