This has nothing to do with Insight specifically. Welcome to the digital transition. Even OTA channels have the same numbering scheme.

Any ideas what will happen between WDRB and Time Warner?

anybody running AT & T U-VERSE cause I may be switching to something besides cable?
AT&T is not nearly as good as Direct TV
I have had Insight, ATT U-Verse and now DirecTV TV. ATT U-Verse is not as widely available as Insight, but I had as good of quality and was pleased with the service. I have had DirecTV for 4 months now and am very pleased with the quality and service. It will, however, tend to lose signal during heavy rain or thunderstorms where the other two did not. The new customer incentives are great for ATT and DirecTV. If you go with DirecTV and are a AAA member, you can get an additional discount, but you need to call the special subscriber number to get it (google AAA DirecTV for the number).

Just wonder you all thought about Lynn Martin taking over WBKI and teaming up with WDRB?

Stronger signal? It's already at 1000 kW
WBKI was added on 58.3 today.
Might as well add DRB and MYO for 34.3 and 34.4

Posted this over at dslreports.com as well but thought I'd post here to get additional opinions:

Currently a Directv customer in Louisville. Insight sales rep came by last night and offered to pay for any termination penalty with Directv, so I decided to take a relook but have several questions.

My current setup with Directv is 5 TVs with whole home and HD.

If my math is right, Insight is about $25 a month cheaper for a similar setup and similar programming.

Questions (for anyone who is willing):

With that many TVs, I will need two storage units (my understanding is each network storage can have 3 DVRS connected). Can those two storage units see each other? I would like all 5 TVs to access any show recorded, which is the way I have it now with Directv.

Does Insight generally offer lower first year rates (other than the termination fee they have offered to pay for).

Are there any one or two year contracts associated with Insight.

Does Insight offer the ESPN alternate channel during college football season? Directv does.

How is the picture quality. I was at a Time Warner home in the northeast over the fourth and it was awful. Any complaints in Louisville?

Does Insight offer the Time Warner Ipad App yet? The Directv App is pretty good, but not perfect

Are there any extras with the Insight DVR (ie Pandorda) - definately not a show stopper.

Does the PACE whole home DVRs have "folders" to organize recorded shows. The Time Warner boxes I used over the 4th did not (which seems really behind) and it was a bit of a mess. I read there was recently an update locally that added folders but don't know if it made it to the PACE boxes.

Any other "gotchas" I should now about regarding hidden charges?

I am using the Pace boxes (I have two) and both record and you can play the recordings on either box. You can have any box record up to 2 show at the same time but the programming must be done on the device that is going to record it. The Pace box does organize the shows into folders and once or twice it has missed named them but outside of that it works pretty well. I know Insight used to offer an alternative channel for other sports but not sure what plans are in work with Time Warner calling the shots. I switched from Directv last year and I am on a month to month plan - no contract. I have not seen my rates change but I know they will be going up on my 1 year anniversary. My picture quality seems better than Dtv but it could always be a little bit better smile.gif Lastly, not sure about and iPhone apps - I don't believe there are any as well as any web based programming options. A friend of mine just switched from uverse to cable and he thinks the picture is considerably better and they offered him a heck of deal!

I ordered U-verse today (UV450 TV/Internet/Phone) as it looks to be about $40 cheaper per month. I will report back after I use it for a while:)

Is WBKI being moved to RF channel 51, used by, or formerly used by WMYO? I noticed this morning that the PSIP on channel 51 is reading "WBKI-DT" (34.1) and not "WMYO-DT" (58.1). Plus, there are currently no subchannels at all, so there is no WMYO feed on RF channel 51. Receiving the signal on the north side of Indy @ 111 miles. Just curious what is going on. Thanks.
on my tv's I show 34.1 for wbki, but the programing information is listed as 58.1 on my dish network locals
post #3980 of 3990
Is it still doing that? It should be shown as WBKI-19.1 I think... Shows 34.1 here OTA here in Lexington
post #3981 of 3990
yes, it is still showing incorrectly on Dish

I have notified WDRB & WBKI. They say they are working on it

Channel 11.3 has whas doppler radar on there now. It has been on there since November 21st.

I can't pick up any louisville stations anymore, but is WAVE and WDRB the only stations that still do HD news there?

No, each station is broadcasting the news in HD
post #3986 of 3990
Well good. Glad to see WLKY and WHAS stop using widescreen SD for their newscasts.

WHAS and WLKY are still widescreen sd according to wikipedia. On August 24, 2009, WHAS became the second station (behind WAVE-TV) in Louisville to broadcast its local news in widescreen. Unlike WAVE (and eventually WDRB), the WHAS newscasts are actually aired in 16:9 widescreen standard definition. In February 2010, WLKY became the third station in the Louisville market to begin airing its newscasts in widescreen – and the second to air them in upconverted widescreen standard definition rather than true high definition. WLKY isn't going hd on news for 1.5 or 2 more years according to an email from Rick Van Hoose. WHAS said they don't have a timetable on when they are going hd for news.

Oh wow. As big Louisville market is and all the other markets in the US much smaller they do the news an local programming in HD. IE Lexington has been doing the local HD thing since 2007-2008.

... well if you can call any of it "HD" any more ... the average bit rate on WTVQ 36-1 is shockingly low ...

I had insight a few years ago, I didn't mind their HDTV but there wasn't a whole lot of options.

Anyway I divorced and moved, stuck with insight but kept Internet only and used an ota HD antenna for local channels as I'm not a big tv watcher. However, I still haven't been a big fan of the spotty Internet service, (my opinion) poor customer service, and ever rising prices and fees.

My friends and some family recently switched to AT&T uverse and have been very pleased, so I made the switch as well. My installation is this Thursday, and Ill be back in the HDTV game, as well as hopefully better Internet service (I opted for their 18 Mbps downstream, coming from insight 10.0).

Can't wait!
