My parents live in Montgomery and just switched from Dish to Charter. They're glad they made the move.

Their DVRs still SUCK!
They got the whole home DVR from Charter and actually like it better than the Dish DVR they had. It still has the same guide and menu look as all the other DVRs and Hd boxes that the cable co's provide. I hate those guides. We use TIVO with our Brighthouse.

Charter has a whole home DVR system? I can't find anything on there website about it. For the first time ever, I'm considering switching from Dish to Charter if Dish actually drops AMC on June 1.

One other question for Charter folks, does Charter have ESPNU at all, what about BBC America? These are 2 channels that may keep me with Dish if Charter doesn't have them. Also couldn't find our local PBS listed as being in HD on Charter's website which surprises me since I get it in HD from Dish.

They have whole home in some areas. My parents are in Lake Forest. I think they do have ESPNU in HD.

It seems a chunk of my HD channels on Knology are just black and two or three are jittery. After calling support he rebooted the box and sent something to it but the issue remains and said a tech would have to come out.

Anybody know if this could be because of a signal strength from one day to the next? I mean HDNET worked before and now it is busted. I am guessing it is just me having this issue?

Over half my HD channels work great and I can watch the same channels that black out in SD without issue.

I'm hearing rumours that WAKA will start carrying Me-TV and WCOV will carry Antenna TV. Anyone else heard this?
Yes, I have heard both.

It's the first I've heard of Antenna TV coming to WCOV, but the MeTV launch has been getting pushed back since September.
Well WCOV has been showing commercials for Antenna TV so, I'd say it is more then a rumor.

Trying to figure out how they're connecting all the sets to the home media system. Is it coax between the main DVR and the receivers in the other rooms?

Reason I'm asking is that I have coax already in place and don't want to deal with running other types of wiring through the attic and down walls in other rooms.
What happens to This TV on WCOV then?

Yes it works on the SWM system.
One cable from the SWM LNB to the SWM Hub
One cable from each receiver to the SWM hub.
At one receiver Ethernet is injected into the system for internet downloads.
At any receiver power is inserted to power the system.

That's it!

Plus what ever TV has the whole home box on it gets PIP and side by side!

That new DVR is… a word I think it over used these days, but it fits here… amazing. I just learned that the wooded lot next to me is being staked out for a new home, so hopefully my tree issue will come to an end soon and I can ditch the local crappy cable (I'm not in MGM) for D* again!

As for Antenna TV, have any of the commercials said when it'll debut and what will happen to This TV?
Antenna TV launches on July 1. It will replace AccuWeather on 20.2.

AVS forum had an iOS app before they made the recent upgrades. That app doesn't work anymore. Anyone know if they plan a new app or a mobile version?

Here is a thread discussing the AVS Forum app:

Looks the standalone app will no longer be supported but, you can use the TapaTalk app.

Found it in Tapatalk. Thanks!

DirecTV just dropped all of the Viacom channels. There were 17 including Nick, MTV, spike and comedy Central.

Although I am a little frustrated Brighthouse hasn't added any HD in almost a year (more coming soon though) you don't hear of them dropping channels. The cable companies don't seem to have these big disputes like the satellite companies. That's one reason I dropped Dish.

Boy am I glad I didn't make the switch to DirecTV when Dish dropped AMC.
It's annoying, but DirecTV claims they wanted about a billion a year more to keep carrying the channels.

Would you rather your service provider bend over and take it (and pass the cost on to your bill) or cut off the channels? Either way, the carrier loses in these disputes. People will either complain about higher bills or losing their channels. It's a no-win situation.
Actually, from what I've read online and over at satelliteguys.us, DirecTV said they wanted what amounts to a billion more, they never said per year. Have to assume they meant a billion more over the course of the agreement and the last contract was a 7 year deal. So, if the new one is another 7 year deal, a billion over 7 years is about .02 a day per subscriber or .60 per month. A billion a year would be around $4 more per month per subscriber and I doubt Viacom is that dumb. The billion more spread out over the course of the contract seems much more in line with other contract disputes and matches the "pennies a day" line Viacom has been saying.

Both sides are bending there words to try and win the PR battle, Viacom has supposedly been deleting pro-DirecTV comments from there FB page but, I highly doubt they are asking for a billion more per year.

Local channels are a beast of their own. I think all providers have problems with locals from time to time. I was speaking more about national channels.

You're right, they never specified a time frame for that billion.

If they fooled me, well there's no surprise in that. But I've heard two different news reports say "a billion a year" just today. That's bad when broadcast media doesn't question something like that.
I can see where they want to grow profits but at some point, you really do have a ceiling as to how much you can charge before any gains are offset by lost subscribers.

It sounds like Direct TV may be testing this theory.

Same here. I'd only miss Comedy Central and then only for two shows - South Park and Futurama.

But I don't have D* anymore and don't get CC in HD so I actually wouldn't miss it now. It's in fuzzy analog only. frown.gif

Anyone know if Brighthouse has ESPNU in HD? And to all the Brighthouse subscribers, how is the WatchESPN App? Currently have Directv thinking of switching to Brighthouse, but when I originally had the their DVR was the worse example of "functional electronics". Could care less about the Viacom dispute, really only interested in switching because of access to the WatchESPN App.
