Is WNCF using some kind of volume limiting on shows? I ask because I only watch 2 shows on ABC (Last Resort and Once Upon A Time) and whenever there is an action scene on both shows the volume noticeably drops. When the action scene is over the volume returns to normal. I first thought it was my DVR from Dish but I have turned off the "volume Limiting" feature of the DVR and it is still happening. This never happens on any other channel or while watching Blu-Ray movies or playing Xbox. That also rules out my receiver as the problem and I've double checked my AVR's settings to confirm that night mode is turned off and DAC is turned off. I made a post a week or so ago in the "Once Upon A Time" thread and the few that responded say that they didn't notice the problem.

The volume drops so bad that if there is any dialogue during an action scene, I can barely understand what they are saying. Can't turn it up thought because the second the action scene is over the volume shoots back up and I'm not going to sit there all night raising and lowering the volume. If I can't figure this out then I guess I'll just stop watching ABC shows because this problem is annoying the crap out of me.

Yes.. Part of the new Federally Mandated CALM act. rolleyes.gif The mute button has worked fine for me for years..smile.gif

I have made changes to the processing for WNCF and WBMM HD channels. Please listen and let me know if this is more to your liking, as there are quite a few parameters and adjustments available.

No change in PQ for me with WNCF. It is not in my opinion HD. The OTA and Brighthouse picture is poor SD at best. Please don't think I am being a super critic and I will not keep complaining .
I also noticed on WNCF no Dolby Digial, just Dolby Pro Logic. I think most people wont notice that thoughThanks for all you do in information and work with the stations:D:D

Please don't take this wrong.. but are you watching WNCF-DT on 32.1 or WNCF-SD on 22-2 ? Also what is BH channel, and are you using their box or clear QAM ? Thanks!smile.gif

no problem. Brighthouse channel 201 and BH DVR. I will check my OTA now. OTA wncf 22.2 no signal on32.1
post #6431 of 6565
Do you think Brighthouse is showing 22.2 instead of 32.1?
Brighthouse may indeed be carrying the wrong signal.

Have you re-scanned your OTA Tv?

Somehow I missed this and also I see now my ota is on 22.1 SD. I would like to apologize and thank you for all the help and being so nice to a senile old fart like me. My wife told me I was wrong. What would you do to get BH to fix this?

Finally pulled the plug and dropped Brighthouse for DirecTV. I'm keeping BH for internet. I gain over 30 HD channels with the package I got (Choice ultimate + HD extra pack), whole home DVR w/ 5 tuners and VOD. BH doesn't have any of those. Plus, I saved some money. BH internet is obscenely exepnsive by itself compared to other providers. We may switch to AT&T when we move. Anyone have the HR34(Genie) and client(s)? What are your thoughts?

Hopefully, DirecTV will pick up the CW in HD. I got the AM21 add-on to pick up CW HD and the sub channels.

Boy, aren't they.

If AT&T ever makes it to my street, I'll be switching.

Anyone have a contact with AT&T that could move things along faster?

This may have been covered. Why are they showing local WAKA adds on WNCF

Good News.My problem with HD picture quality with ABC Brighthouse has been fixed Thanks to you know who you are!biggrin.gif:D

I don't know about that. It used to be just NBC that sucked for football. Now it's CBS, NBC and ABC. Just horrible blurry mess when things move. Is it that hard to allocate enough bandwidth to the signal?

Are you watching OTA or on cable?

I'm in a different market than you guys but have found that the OTA picture is almost always superior to what the local cableco provides. They are re-encoding the locals. Maybe bdfox18doe could shed some light on whether that happens on BH or whoever up there. I know that when I had DirecTV (praise be to them) the picture OTA and on satellite was identical to my eyes.

OTA, I've noticed an overall drop in video quality on all the networks over the last year and half or so. ABC used to be great. It sucks now. CBS was the best for a long time, it's as bad as NBC now. NBC used to be the loan crappy channel. Now, everyone has dropped down to NBC quality. During football games I can watch the screen slowly come into resolution on all of them now. That is such an obvious bandwidth problem. Surely there is something you can do about that.

Well, either the quality of the stream provided by each network has tanked or your local affiliates are monkeying with the compression for some reason. I'm in the Mobile market and ABC, Fox and CW all have great picture quality with no blocking during sports or action scenes. NBC is a little worse (the Olympics were a nightmare) but the regular shows seem fine while CBS is the worst of the worst. But our CBS affiliate has two SD subchannels so I think that's the issue. Ditto APT - it's a horror show, but each APT site has two subchannels.

Is the feed these stations provide Dish Network and Direct TV any better?

Guess it'd then be a question of overly compressed OTA or overly compressed by the satellite/cable companies.

Watched Once Upon A Time tonight and I'm sorry to report but the audio dropping during action scenes is not fixed. Happened the worest during the fight scene with the oger. Wish I had a way for others to hear it, it's pretty obvious even to my wife, who normally doesn't notice techie things.

I'm pretty sure that both satellite companies just pass the MPEG-4 signal on to the boxes. That's what DirecTV does. No re-compression anywhere in the chain, supposedly. In the case of ABC 33/40 in Birmingham, I'm told it's a direct fibre feed to DirecTV since the reception centre in town can't get a good signal from them OTA.

I am not an expert but someone told me when a station has 2 or 3 substations it degrades signal on main one. Sorry for wrong names used (substations).rolleyes.gif
