The Official AVS 2003 The Grammys in HDTV on CBS Topic! - Page 5

No way John Mayer is 16 - hes gotta be in his twenties
post #122 of 539
I hope the Oscars have a separate production like the Super Bowl. I don't like the 4:3 framing...otherwise, still looks and sounds great.
in his song 1983 he talks about being 6 again...the math makes him 25 or 26
post #124 of 539
John Mayer is 25. And about 20dB more articulate than Eminem.

Audio sync a little closer in Philly, but still off. Watching Kim Catrell clap after John Mayer won and you can really hear/see it.

You know the sound is absolutely pristine when you can hear the idiots yelling during the thank you speeches - and it comes only from the right surround speaker!

Just think about it - this is as good as TV will get until 3D displays come around!

I thought the guy yelling was out in my neighborhood!

Wow... the camera doesn't like the background on the dixie chicks... look at the blocking around the tree branches

It really does sound & look great. Very enjoyable.

Bob,

Did you get input from Dolby for the 5.1 production?
First hour sounds great! The emphasis on 2 channel front is only natural to me. Great to hear the audio catch up with the video quality in a live broadcast. Thanks CBS! Thanks audio tech's! You've worked hard, and it shows.

Perfect sync in Miami (and on Dish).

HD Graphics are also a real treat.
damn we're getting audio/video dropouts now on TWC.
Not on the OTA feed. It must be a TWC problem.

first hour was perfect.

Whoever came up with the play at the Grammy's, win a Grammy conspiracy theory is not very far off.
Anybody want to comment on this being scripted?

Does your station there run a sub channel?

That's amusing, actually. It was a jumbotron-type display behind them. You would see the same type of blocking if you were at the garden yourself!

You'll see it repeated all night. But hey? Do you want them to book the losers? :D

Is this being broadcast live??
good to know Vic. TWC NYC always seems to have audio dropout issues with all their HD stations, tonight the first hour of the Grammy's did not have any problems which I thought was unusual for TWCNYC.

Picture and 5.1 sound is amazing in Mpls/St. Paul area on WCCO. Much better mixing than the superbowl on ABC. This is what HDTV is all about! Thanks CBS.

Yikes is right. I feel so icky for thinking he was so adorable while he was singing. Great voice, though, and very poised and comfortable up there on stage.

Bob - No subchannel.

Actually if you could help with our 5.1 we'd appreciate it! :) Sounds like Satan whenever they turn it on!

Pass along thanks to all involved... excellent production. When is the next 5.1 event?
