Call 973-317-5000, dial 0 and ask for Michael Colickio (that's not the proper spelling, but that's it how you pronounce his name). Demand to speak with him and explain you are tired of not getting returned phone calls.

Michael is Marek's boss. I had to threaten him with a lawsuit to get action, but he did get the ball rolling once he realized how serious I was.

I just sent my 30000 in to the JVC service center in California yesterday. The guy I spoke to on the phone was aware of the problem and said that they would install the "Upgrade" at no charge.

Do you have the location and phone number of that service center?

Thanks.

I got my deck back yesterday. It felt like it was gone a month, but I checked and I had only sent it off on April 15th. I got the same literature as everybody else.

The good news is that it looks like I can finally play my "Ice Age" tape cleanly. I have 2 of them and had sent one back that I couldn't get to play. The 2 that I have would almost always have breakups on both of my decks. On the returned deck it played perfectly last night for about 10 minutes before I tried something else. I watched about 3 hours worth of stuff and only saw problems that were on my recordings and reproducable.

I'll probably wait at least a couple of weeks before sending my 2nd deck in for the updates.

Since I got my deck back and had the 3 pronged repair, I've had really good luck. Just watched Courage Under Fire without a single glitch. Could they have finally gotten it right?

Ken,
------------Just the person I've been wanting to "talk" to.
How was the movie?? I've never seen it. DVHS PQ and sound?? How would you rank the movie (story and acting) out of 5 stars???
Thanks, Tom B.
Tom, the movie was pretty good...better than we remembered it from the movies (I'd give it 3.5 stars out of 5). I did think that Meg Ryan was a bit miscast in her role. PQ was about a 4 out of 5 (I noticed a bit of EE in some scenes but not too bad) and sound was probably a 5 out of 5, excellent! What makes this movie a bit unusual is the aspect ratio for a movie of this type (1:85). It's kind of nice filling the screen with this HD quality.

Courage Under Fire? Egads. Lou Diamond Philips ever do a good movie?

I hated the movie. I thought it was just pre-PC era PC gobdldy gook hidden in a false pro-military tin can.

Now here's a spoiler, so watch out: Napalm has been outlawed by whatever convention outlawed it after Vietnam, AFAIK. I may be wrong, but I don't believe the US Military uses it. And I also don't believe dropping it on a tank would do diddly except warm things up a bit.

Yes, I'm being hard on this movie, and yes I may be wrong about the Napalm. But I just feel that this is the type of second grade mentality movie that is getting dumped on us early adopters, and I am a tad frustrated about it. And now rumor has it we're getting Phone Booth? Please....

Phone Booth is a surprise sleeper that will be day and date. How is that a bad thing? Me thinks you are not looking at this logically.

COURAGE UNDER FIRE is an imperfect film, but one that I enjoyed. And Lou Diamond Phillips was surprisingly good in it.

The best acting LDP did in that film was when he drove head on into the train! :D

I know this is a stupid question, but why has a thread dealing with a fix for the 30K turned into a movie review thread?

I look at the new posts to see what new information there is about the JVC 30000 problems and fixes. Instead, I find I've wasted my time when I read reviews about movies instead of the 30000.

Ken mentioned that a certain movie played back fine with his fixed 30K. That's good information. But the person after that just couldn't seem to restrain himself and asked for more details about the movie and tape that had NOTHING to do with the 30000. And every other post after that had NOTHING to do with the 30000.

Enough! Stop the movie reviews in this thread. Use this thread for the topic it was intended.

If it makes anyone feel better to blast me for this post, go right ahead, but you know that my comments are valid.

Since the new info about the fix is either nonexistent or being withheld for political reasons, this thread will sink. Maybe a movie review is just as good as just saying bump. Am I right or am I right ? ........ wait I'm sorry you already said that.

-----------------I'm sorry Jerry........ I just got my new JVC DVHS and I'm looking for great PQ movies.

----------------- When I go on the "software" threads, no one seems to mention many specific DVHS movies and their good and bad points. So when someone here, or any thread mentions that they watched "such-and-such" movie on DVHS, I just had to ask about it.

------------------ There does not seem to be enough of "us", (30000 owners), who will volunteer the info. My question (s) were directed to the person who posted that he or she had just watched the movie on DVHS.

Regards, Tom B.

Okay, I may be repeating information that someone else has posted, but one thing I really like about getting the update is that fast forwarding while playing seems to work much better now. With the older software it would just freeze on one image when I fast forwarded stuff. Now I actually get some images that let me know what is going on. Plus I haven't seen a single glitch that wasn't on the tape when playing back on my updated deck. I'll probably send my 2nd deck in pretty soon for the updates.

I sent my deck in 2 weeks ago and got it back last week. I had never recorded HD before but had just bought a new Samsung T-165 and got it the day right after I sent JVC in to be repaired. When I got JVC back the first recording I did recorded 2 hours of perfect HD. Since then I get like maybe 1-2 dropouts\\pixellations an hour. It happens real quick and is not bad at all. Also I never had a D-Theater pixel up before and have only played a few minutes of one since getting the JVC back and no pixellation so far. People that are recording HD..Do you ever get an occasional dropout/pixellation? Also when I fast forward I get a frozen image on screen. I sent my JVC to the service center in Lawerenceville, GA. My tape loading mechanism had hung up. I told them to fix that and upgrade to latest firmware. I don't know if mine got the right upgrade or not..what do you think?

I thought only the avx-1 had small dropouts per hour. So, the samsung is the same?

Ok... this is a strange question - but since some of you have multiple 3000's I hope someone could help me out.

My box got unexpectedly thrown out during my latest move - I'd really like to send my 3000 to get the fixes done, but I'd like to use a proper box.

Could I borrow a box from someone? I live in the DC metro (actually near Fair Oaks Mall in Fairfax, Virginia.)

TIA,
Roel

Mike

May I ask if you ever see "pixelization" when not recording? Perhaps it is a "rare" receiving error by the T165? I sometimes do. My suggestion is that it may not always or ever be the 30k. I am in a difficult receiving location and I consider myself lucky when I can watch (record) a program without some pixelization. It does not actually happen that often, but it does happen.

I was hoping the lack of posts meant "no news is good news" for the updates.

If people that sent them in for the "final" fix could post how its going so far?

For me, except for locking up all the time, mine works fine. I hope it keeps working well enough until the bugs are ironed out.

I don't have many hours on it yet, but now, with the latest avx1 software update, I'm recording and watching about 10 hours per week.

(I know, work sucks ;) ).

Roel,
You don't want to send it in with the original box because JVC will toss the box when it comes in. Better to send it in a box that you don't want back.

I'm pretty sure I got my original box back (unless it was an identical box). They had placed it within another box for shipment back though. Maybe they've changed their policy on this. They didn't even put scratches in my 30k :)

I read somewhere that someone sent one in the original packaging and got it back in a plain cardboard box so I asked the JVC guy what I should do when I sent it in. He said that they don't keep it together with the box and recomended that I don't send in the original..so I didn't.
