If you can properly combine two antennas so that the frequencies don't interfere, then a switch wouldn't be necessary. Do a search for something called a jointenna.

You may have seen them yesterday on 103.XXX and find them on a totally different channel tomorrow.

This does not make too much sense to me because I have had the same QAM stations (minus the new CBS HD) for over a year, they have never changed. Now I am just trying to get that consistant channel on the CBS side!?!?!?!?
It probably won't happen until at least 12/23.

Yes..for the most part they stay the same....BUT they DO change. In the Elmira area they actually just changed last week. The cable provider has complete control over the assignments. The reason you can't find a consistant channel for CBS is because TWC keeps changing it. In the Elmira area they are moving towards making the QAM assignments match ATSC channels. (i.e. WETM-DT channel 18 now has a QAM assignment of 18.1....where it used to be on 79.3.) They haven't turned off 79.3 yet, but my guess is that they will soon. I'm betting that you'll eventually find WBNG consistantly on QAM 12.1 soon. Most people don't even know about QAM so changing the channels around won't matter to 99% of the customers because they all exclusively use a set top box.

How did you make out with your signal problems? Did the installer come out and take a look at it? Did he swap out the LNB for you?
Yes he came out, he said the LNB's looked fine to him, he said the mount for the dish was a little loose and he tightened it up and realigned it a bit. He said everything else looked good. I haven't had a problem since then. Actually everything was working fine the day before he came.

He's a nice guy, didn't charge me at all for the service call.
That's good to hear. What are your signal readings now on 101, 99c and 103c (in good weather)?

Also, was he an older gentleman, perhaps with a very young installer he was training? That's who came and fixed my dish after the initial installer bunged it up this summer. I forget his name - the good installer - but he was very nice.
so how was the first week of HD CBS football on TWC?....since I can't get it in the Elmira area

I'll post up when the weather is better, but after he did it he checked the signal readings and they were all in the 90's.

He's an older guy I'd say in his mid-late 50's, named Jim. When he installed it, and this last time, it was just him. His businesses name goes by Reach for the Stars, they're out of Conklin.

So I was talking to someone I know today that works for AT&T, we were talking about how 3G finally launched around here, and he said wait until next year. Supposedly we're high on the list for AT&T to roll out U-Verse. He's the second person that works for AT&T that's told me that.

To be honest I'm not interested in U-Verse because their HD lineup isn't that great. Out of all services the one I'd like to get is FiOS, but I haven't heard anything about that coming here in a while now. I know someone that lays cable line and they said that their company was bidding to do Verizon work in 2009, but he wasn't sure what for.
Well, maybe if AT&T is aggressive with U-Verse it'll force Verizon to get off their duffs and deploy FIOS. Anything that presents more options than TWC is fine by me.

Yes. In fact, Cable cos are required to not strip out the PSIP data as they pass the signal onto their system in the QAM256 format. Comcast down in Philly passes it along, thus channels all properly map to their old ID #s(KYW ch 3 maps to 3-1, WPVI ch 6 maps to 6-1, etc). They also have program names and times for about 12hrs ahead, but the show descriptions do not show up like they do with ATSC digital signals that go out over the airwaves.

From the reports it seems like TW is working on it. PSIP data is what tells channel 100-3 to show up on your tuner as 12-1, even though it is really at the frequency for channel 100, not channel 12. PSIP also can contain timestamp, program name, program description, format flag, etc.

Any reports from TWC users about the QAM status of WBNG?

I'm in Oneonta and it's still only on 12-1.

Can someone explain to me why TWC can broadcast ABC and NBC to me via QAM but I can't get them through the cable box. I've never quite understood this crap. I believe it has to do with FCC regs. and the fact that the Utica market screws it all up for Oneonta.
I heard that TWC will offer the MLB Channel when it launches on 1/1/09. No clue whether it'll be the SD or HD version.

Another frustrated Oneontan here, with only a TW cable box. It's pretty sad to think that even with the arrival of WBNG-HD we now have just two HD feed among the "big 4" networks from TWC, with still no NBC or ABC in sight.

I'm pretty sure you're right that the problem stems from us being classified as in the Utica market. However, my understanding is that WKTV (NBC) has finally gone HD, so now do we wait two years for a carriage agreement?

Actually, ABC is supposedly on its way very soon, according to the TW CNY website:

"WUTR HD will launch on ch. 703 on 12/30/08 in Oneonta, Cooperstown, New Berlin."

Here's the link: http://www.timewarnercable.com/centr...ogramnews.html

The problem with getting the networks in HD is that the Oneonta branch (which I am on) is like a hybrid of the Binghamton and Utica areas. As such, we don't get all the Binghamton channels (in analog), and therefore, we're not "supposed" to get the HD versions of those channels. Why they are available on QAM I have no idea, but I haven't gone around advertising it for fear that if enough attention is brought to the fact that we're getting "out of market" HD channels, some legal issues could crop up and they'd alter or block the QAM channels of NBC and ABC (WIVT or whatever it is). Does anyone know if there's any chance of Time Warner hooking up with WKTV(NBC) out of Utica for an HD channel?

Even weirder about our Cable system is how or why we get channel 26, WRGB (CBS) out of Albany in analog.

Also, the website says this about MLB Network:

"MLB Network will launch to the Digital Explorer Pak on 1/1/09 on channel 100."

So as of right now, it doesn't sound like it will be available in HD. I imagine it might eventually show up, however.

nice.. getting some free premium stations on RF112-001, RF114-001, and RF115-001
post #1821 of 3748
If they are premium stations, enjoy them while you can.
They will probably go away.
TWC is running a free preview of Starz and HBO till the end of the year. I couldn't find the stations on unencrypted QAM, I think all of the premium stations are under SDV, so a QAM tuner can't/won't be able to tune them... I see several like 114-243 and such, but they are all encrypted.

January 1st is almost here and I haven't seen any indication of WENY in Elmira having they're CBS station ready to go or ABC in HD. Has anybody heard anything? I don't understand why Time warner cant open up WBNG in HD for us until they do have it available.

Not sure why there are dups, they don't remap or anything.

Also they are testing out to ch 122 with a test pattern. Ch 120 and 122 have test patterns on them. Good to see they are testing way up near 780MHZ on a 750 plant.

I am still not getting CBS QAM, I receive the rest but I do not receive anything in the 100s or 12-1, should I be contacting TWC? Is it possible that my signal is weaker and I need to beef it up in order to get CBS QAM?

check 42-42

Nope that did not work either, I have done multiple scans and I am not receiving CBS QAM...should I contact TWC to see if I can possibly beef up my signal with maybe an amplifier?
TW may have not enabled WBNG on QAM yet.

It may be a contract thing again.

Ok so CBS may not be out on QAM yet is what you are saying? I wonder though if I contact TWC they can at least shed some light on whether or not I should be receiving CBS on QAM!?!?!?

Have you tried manually inputting the channel, such as 12.1(12 period 1).
Sometimes the TV doesn't scan all the channels in.
