Negative. WBNG remains on digital 7, of course the average user doesn't know or see that, thanks to PSIP mapping.

Yes, it's current.

Actually, it was WIVT that switched back to their original frequency ch34 from ch 4.

I'm surprised to see the WETM station bug on 34.2 (in the lower left corner at the beginning of shows before the NBC bug appears). Why isn't it the WBGH bug?
Probably because the network feed is coming from WETM.
So what station bug do people with cable see: WETM or WBGH?
Cable? What's cable?

Thanks to all for the confirmation. The mapping does make it confusing to keep track of frequencies. I suppose most people don't care, but it can make a big difference when selecting an antenna.

WETM 18.1 down? On Thursday night, when all my favorite comedies are on? Grrr... Anyone else of the 4 or 5 people who do over-the-air noticing it? WSKA and WENY are fine.

ETA: Well, I guess it's even less viewers than I thought. Seemed to map clearly the next night that I tuned in. Hope it doesn't happen frequently.

I have noticed this same problem. It goes in and out of focus every 10 15 seconds. It is really unwatchable.

My fiancee likes to watch Rachel Ray in the mornings, its on Fox 68 in syracuse at 9am and WBNG at 10 am. Is there any reason why the feed on 68 would like about 75% clearer and less pixelated than WBNG? They are both 4:3, is it because 68 is 720p and WBNG is 1080i or does this have to do with the equipment they use to record the feed and then replay it?
Most likely because WBNG is recording the show in 480i as they can't yet record HD syndicated shows.
OK, so I watch ...

Anyway, I seem to have a problem on TWC with American Idol.

I keep getting audio drop out on this program, and this program only.

I have my AVR connected to the SA 8300HD via optical and the AVR shows DD 5.1 (I know, sometimes the flag is bogus). i do select Dolby Digital via settings and the set is connected to the box via HDMI. The gear is a Harman Kardon AVR-347 and a Sony KDSR-60XBR1.

Does anyone else have this problem with Idol? Any other Fox show (24, Fringe) rocks the house without the slightest bit of audio distrotion or drop out.

Thanks!
Thanks to DTV_Engineer_Syr I think I understand why it happens, but I think it's funny when WBNG has to drop into 4:3 analog in order to run a station identifier for digital channel 12.1.
Yeah, you'd think the TV station that has been around the longest in Binghamton would be up on having the current hardware to allow the insertion of banners into network HD feeds.

Hi all...new here but wanted to share this...
I live in the Elmira DMA. I emailed the General Manger of a Station in Elmira and asked if the Dish/Directv rumors were true.
He replied that the equipment is in and ready to go. Its his understanding they have to get the satellite to work. Once that occurs we (Elmira/Corning market) will have local service.
I then asked which provider Dish or Directv. He replied, he believes its both. The install company Hughes is the supplier for both Directv and Dish.

Anyone heard anything more??

Well, D* newest satellite, D-12, was launched at the end of December and is currently undergoing normal in orbit testing before they start using it (rumored time frame for them to start using it is April/May). And E* just launched their newest satellite, E-14, yesterday, but I'm not sure when it's suppose to be in use. Hopefully both will have HD locals this year, though personally I'm just hoping for D* since that's what I have.

Any bets whole lights up Elmira DMA first, Directv or Dish?
And which DMA lights up first? Elmira or Binghamton?
My selfish choice is D* in Binghamton!!!
You'll get no argument from me.
Is there any way to find out exactly when the locals will be coming on to our DMA in Binghamton. I have been with DTV for 7 years now and I have been told so many stories since day one, the last was about a year and half ago when DTV basically lied to me and said we are all setup for locals, had a tech come out only to laugh and say Time Warner and the local stations are whats keeping you from getting DTV locals!?!?!?!?
Hopefully, DirecTV will send that information to their subscribers when it happens. Probably sometime after the new satellite goes live.
No definite date yet, but read the article I linked to about both sat companies "establishing an uplink" at WBNG.

I'd watch for press releases from Directv, usually they have a release when they announce they will offer more local channels(usually a few DMAs at a time)

I live in Nineveh, about 20 miles east of Binghamton. We are about 15 miles from the Binghamton transmitters and 72 miles from the Scranton and Syracuse towers. This is a poor reception area.

I decided to experiment with an Antennacraft® HBU55 High-VHF/UHF Antenna today hoping to get WSKG over the air. I mounted it about 25' off the ground. The antenna is connected to a Panasonic TC-L32C12 TV.

I discovered I can get the two VHF stations from Binghamton but not WSKG on channel 46 or any other UHF channels. So I swung the antenna around towards Scranton and did a rescan. I can pull in WBRE reasonably well, and WYOU with a fair amount of breakup. No UHF however.

I also tried Syracuse which is about the same distance from me. I got nothing from that direction. Looking for information on the Syracuse stations I see there are two low VHF stations and the rest are UHF. The Antennacraft HBU55 does not receive the low VHF band so that makes sense.

So it looks like I'm in a UHF dead zone, but I'm wondering if the tuner in that Panny is working right. I need to try another tuner.

I have this antenna on my roof.

I am closer to the towers, but I have a hill between me and them.

I had a nice communication with some tech folks at WSKG today. They tell me at my location a 25 foot high antenna with a 15 db gain "should" work. My Antennacraft HBU55 High-VHF/UHF Antenna only has a 9 db gain.

I'm considering my options at this point. I could add a higher gain UHF only antenna or just hold out for Dish Network to begin carrying Binghamton locals. (WSKG has signed an agreement allowing them to do so.)

I'd hate to put a lot more time, effort and money into this only to have Dish come through right after. If I thought it would be a year or more before the locals were up it might be worth it.

I hate making decisions...

For now I'm moving to a VHF/FM only antenna and passing along the Antennacraft to some friends. We already verified that it works well at their location.

if you like to experiment, with some copper, a 2x4 and a 300 to 75 ohm balun, you could build a 4 bay uhf antenna for about $20 or less using plans from the UHF antenna seciton in the forum, i can post the pdf files if you would, they are mclapps drawings

So by the looks of this, we could potentially start to get some locals around May or June???
