Took some time today to inspect my connections at the antenna. I discovered a lot of corrosion. The oceans salty spray really took it's toll. My rotor and amp also look like the elements had deteriorated the casings. Spiders were in the amp too. lol I encourage you to inspect these things once a year and make sure water and such hasn't done damage. I was getting some brief drops on a couple of channels. It had been two years I believe since I had installed the winegard.

So right now I have the amp disconnected and am going to hook it up on the ground were the coax enters the house. WWAY (95%)and WSFX (86%)come in much stronger than WECT (55%)without the amp. With the amp they are all about the same. I figure with the amp on the ground, if Earl and Fiona come, and we lose power, I can just disconnect the amp and won't need power to that to watch TV. I can just power the TV to the generator.

My WECT signal is quite weak. Has anyone else noticed this? It was fine last week.
WECT for the past week had been in the mid 60's SGL.

Today it is back between 98 and 100 SGL.

Even so I did not have any pixielation at all.

I was down in the 50's, now I'm back to 85 or so... I guess they fixed whatever the issue was.

I had the same issues with WECT but now things are back to OK.

How hard is it to get WILM? I've hooked up a RCA ANT751 to my TV. The antenna is currently in the FROG and will be attic mounted once I know I can get WILM. No matter what I do, I don't seem to be able to get WILM. Anyone have any tips/thoughts?

That really isn't the best choice of antenna, because there are no VHF local stations in Wilmington. Take a look at how short the UHF portion is. WILM is on channel 40, so you need a longer yagi style UHF or a bowtie style. A radio shack yagi or bowtie would be a huge improvement over that RCA.

Thanks for the tip. I've ordered another antenna. Hopefully, it will work out.

Just don't forget that you need to aim for Delco, which is where WUNJ is also. WWAY, WECT,a nd WSFX are further south and have much more power than WILM.

WILM LD

WWAY, WECT, WSFX

Anybody here use QAM for cable TV?

I am curious because Time Warner sent out a mailer a few months back in the area saying that if you had QAM you would be able to pick up Oxegen channel and Soap network along with a couple of others they took down from the analog set. Then they sent out another mailer after this saying that you could get a digital box free for a year. The first statement was a lie because I have tried at a friends to help them pick up the channels and they could not, also silicone dust does not list those channels as being available.

My non-cablecard QAM tuner only receives locals. I'm pretty sure when they say these are available via QAM they mean a cablecard QAM tuner like Tivo.
Not really a lie I guess, but more of just not telling the whole story.

Can someone from WECT maybe comment on when we might be able to view some HD syndicated programming? I know Ellen, Dr. Phil, The Doctors, and those are HIGHLY viewed around here on your station.

Report: Southeastern Media Stations Sold
Community Newspaper Holdings outlets going to Thomas Henson
By Michael Malone -- Broadcasting & Cable, 1/3/2011 4:28:44 PM

Community Newspaper Holdings Inc. has agreed to sell the four stations in its Southeastern Media group to Thomas Henson for $24 million and the assumption of $50 million in debt, according to TVNewsCheck.

The stations are Fox affiliates WXTX Columbus (GA); WSFX Wilmington (NC) and WFXG Augusta (GA), and CW affiliate WUPV Richmond.

Calls to Community Newspaper Holdings headquarters in Birmingham were not returned at presstime. Three of the stations have service agreements with Raycom. A call to Raycom was not returned either.

Henson is buying the stations through his Southeastern Media Acquisitions company.

Community Newspaper Holdings has announced it is moving to a new facility in Montgomery, Alabama, to a building being built by Retirement Systems of Alabama, later this year or next.

Raycom is also based in Montgomery, and is controlled by Retirement Systems of Alabama.

WECT and WSFX keep running crawls saying they are off Directv. No agreement with any Raycom stations apparently.

Interesting that the Raycom stations are still on Directv even though they say they are not. At least WBTV in Clt is

It was nice to see the ACC basketball game last night on WWAY in hi def this time. The first game they aired this season was a wreck, and they were the only channel that carried it.

i am in monkey junction..i get wway, wect, wilm, wepx, and wunj with no problem but wsfx is weak and has been all month
post #2031 of 2194
I was hoping someone from your area would comment. It must be the spot your antenna is mounted. Some sweet or dead spots can occur. Is this an indoor or outdoor antenna? Is the coax line fairly new or is it that thin RG-59 kind? Any amps? I had an amp go bad and it was only causing one channel not to work...

Another cause could be water in the line or at the antenna connection outside.

Any chance WUNJ is causing part of the problem? Try turning the antenna. I never noticed this before because I am on cable Wsfx is on real channel 30 and WUNJ is on 29. Look at he bullseye around 9:00 o'clock. Wonder if it work to move the antenna further south?

I've been having problems too. While recording a program on WSFX, I switched to that channel to check signal strength, and the picture was in window box format, then it switched to full screen HD... so I would assume they are having some kind of equipment problems.

I can even get ION sometimes but not WSFX, and all the other locals come in strong...
WSFX increased power from 80 kW to 170 kW recently. But that shouldn't have caused these issues.

Interesting Rich. I have had some brief issues with WUNJ here. Signal strength seems lower than it used to be, and at times when atmospheric conditions change, it won't come in at all, even when aimed properly. It used to be I could aim well off of the tower and still receive them, but not anymore.

So maybe there is some interference between WSFX and WUNJ. ?

Trip on your website you have 190kW for WSFX

I know that's what the permit is for, but they told the FCC that they only built out 170.6 kW.

What the hell has happened?? I can't get 26 OR 39 this morning.

EDIT: looked at my antenna and it is WAY off what the rotor control says! Looks like it got froze into a position or something. Time to get on the roof.

Anyone know why WWAY stopped offering digital surround sound on shows that don't have 5.1? They used to have their system set up like WECT and WSFX where you could get surround instead of just left and right front stereo audio.

All my speakers are shown as being "active", but only sound out of left and right during The View and Dr. OZ
post #2039 of 2194
Last night during the Oscars I saw a brief clip from WWAY with a blackened out person on there. The clip said something like "a familiar face comes to a new place soon." The person was giving the "peace" sign. Looked to me like WWAY has brought on WECT's old chief Meteorologist. If this is the case, that will be fun to watch.

Also lately I have been having severe break-ups on WSFX. Yesterday tried to watch part of the race, and it kept going postal and even off the air.
WWAY will really be loaded with Meteorologists then... George Elliott I presume? Maybe on day we'll have a station where all the anchors are meteorologists too...

I too am still having problems with WSFX...
