I just noticed something odd. Although I normally use a box or DTA on my 2 TV's, I was checking their direct connections to see what would happen now that Universal Sports was dropped.
The Samsung in my bedroom is fine. I can still pick up 5.1, 5.2, and 32.1 (5 and 32 share the same frequency), so they are not encrypted.
My main Sony can no longer pick them up. I even did a rescan, and now they are missing. Here, they are on RF115. In the TV's master channel list, 115 is just listed as is, which means analog, and isn't listing subchannels.
Again, not a major issue as it's only a backup, but somewhat odd. On the Samsung, WMAQ/WFLD is the same signal strength as WBBM/WTTW, which is on the adjacent RF114.
Update: It was signal strength. I tried a temporary connection to a stronger signal, and it worked when I tuned in the raw channels (115.2, 115.5, 115.6). I guess it must be a marginal signal the way I had it connected, not that TV's have very good tuners these days. I don't know why it worked before, though. Unfortunately, the only way to get PSIP'd channel numbers on this stupid TV is to rerun a full scan.
