Sportschannel? some ones living in the past

Hi all,

On Comcast Digital Highland Park, using Windows Media Center I can pick up all local HD stations in clear QAM except WBBM. I assume this is a signal strength issue or 2.1 would show up as the rest of the local channels do. Any suggestions? Windows Media Center seems a little flaky, but maybe it's my TV Wonder 650 HD tuner card.

Good old SportsChannel. At first I thought you meant SportsVision...

Thanks in advance,

Bob

Here in Schaumburg, WBBM and WTTW are on the same QAM frequency. Do you get WTTW?
Code:
Feed PSIP QAM
WGBO 66-1 33-2
WCIU 26-1 125-1
WPWR 50-1 125-2
WLS 7-1 120-1
WMAQ 5-1 115-5
WBBM 2-1 114-1
WFLD 32-1 115-2
WTTW 11-1 114-2
WGN 9-1 120-2
WSNS 44-1 33-1
WXFT (none) 82-25
WCPX 38-1 113-1
WYIN 62-1 45-4 (yes, the PSIP is wrong)
WYCC 20-1 113-5

Andy,

Doesn't the headend for Schaumburg supply WWTO and WJYS?  We were getting them in Chicago Area 2 last time I checked the QAM lineup.

I won't ask about LP's/LD's as I figure that you intentionally skipped them.

I checked, and I don't. I get the locals on 205.1, 207.1, 209.1, 211.1, etc., but no 202.1 and no 2.1 or 11.1.
In my list, I only listed the HD's.

Here in Schaumburg, the PSIP for the SD locals where there is an HD is gone (202.1, 205.1, etc...). If your TV or tuner is coded for them, it'll probably still work unless it updates itself whenever it tunes in. You now have to use the raw QAM for those.

As far as not having WBBM/WTTW, can you temporarily adjust your feed to the tuner to give it a stronger signal and see if it then picks them up? That will at least check if it's actually there.
No joy. I connected directly to the main feed and stll get 49 channels. It actually finds 39 with guide info, but I also added the ClearQAM channels in the list without guide info (Azteca, etc.) I also don't get 20.2, but I do 20.1 and 20.3. So sounds like I should go to Comcast from here?
Comcast doesn't carry 20.2, which is just an SD broadcast version of 20.1. For Comcast, you have to use the 'regular' SD version on whatever ClearQAM it is on your system (or maybe PSIP'd as 220.1).

As far as ClearQAM goes, Comcast employees know little to nothing. If you don't use a box or CableCard, you are on your own.

As it is, Comcast is pushing to be allowed to encrypt EVERYTHING, so enjoy your ClearQAM while you can.

Any one else have the cable box rebooted last night? From the runtime, it looks like mine was rebooted around 4:40am.

Yes it can happen, since between Midnight to 6 am is maintenance hours.

Just got my bill and the channel change info was somewhat different from that on Andy's bill.  Here's what mine said:

UPCOMING CHANNEL CHANGES

On 8/30/12, the following channels will be added to Limited Basic: Bounce TV (via WWME-DT) on channel 361, MundoFox (via WOCK-DT) on channel 388 and MundoFox HD (via WOCK-DT) on channel 178.  On 8/31/12, ESPN Goal Line will be added on Sports Entertainment Package channel 428.  On 9/6/12, Jewish Life Television (JLTV) will be added on Digital Preferred channel 686 and The Israeli Network will be added as an optional international premium service on channel 685.  (The monthly rate for The Israeli Network will be $19.99 and customers will need to have Limited Basic and applicable digital equipment.)  On 10/18/12, FX will move from channel 16 to channel 56 on Expanded Basic and HSN will move from channel 74 to channel 16 on Limited Basic.

Your sub-100's are obviously different than mine (my FX is 50 and HSN is 3). I wonder if I will also get Bounce, or if only closer-in areas will get it since WWME has such a small broadcast area (but then it's much bigger than WOCK!!)

Our sub-100s in Chicago Areas 2 and 3 are even different from those in Chicago Areas 1, 4, and 5.
If you saw the message on the box about the Tennis Channel being added on September 7, forget about it. Comcast got a stay in the lawsuit between them and the channel, so the change is probably on hold.
Expanded Basic?? I think that is now starter.

How do you know what area you are in?
Approximately, 1 is the North Side; 2 is the Norhwest Side; 3 is the West Side; 4 is the South and Southwest Sides north of I think around 87th Street, and 5 is the remainder of the South Side to the city limit.  I found maps once and posted them in another thread but can't remember where they are nor where I found them, sorry.

In the original franchises, Chicago Cable got areas 1, 4, and 5 and Group W got areas 2 and 3.  Eventually AT&T got the whole city and now Comcast has it, but there still are legacy differences between the old Chicago Cable portion and the old Group W portion.

The MundoFox channels were added today, although the SD version (388) is dead.

Also, CNBCWorld (155) is gone again, supposedly for good.

On ClearQAM, MundoFox HD is PSIP'd as 13.5, and SD is 213.5. Odd, as it's actually 13.1 broadcast.

Also odd is that the DTA gets both 178 (HD) and 388 (SD). I guess it's true it can process HD channels, although it can only output SD. It just chops it to 4:3, no letterboxing. It's definitely different feeds, as the SD is usually letterboxed and is raw RF 58.6. The HD is 58.5.

LATV still hasn't been updated to W25DW-D and is airing WOCK's infomercial channel.

It's not on 400 anymore.

Must be S&E package, as I'm not authorized.
Just checked 594 and I have the channel in 1080i HD and it is the Spanish language version of beIn Sports. But whatever is on now is in English. I'm Not a soccer fan, but people who are should be happy that the channel is in HD.
Watching this channel for a while, the picture looks like up converted SD.
Regarding beIN - it looked like crap, so I hooked up my Mac and did a couple of captures. Turns out the picture is only 853x480 (720x480 anamorphic), so it's just upconverted SD. Yeah, it fills the screen but the resolution is crappy.

Here are some samples of beIN on 594.

Anyone have AnyRoom DVR? Does it just utilize the existing coax network? Anything worth noting about the setup? PM me with details please. Re-wireing the house soon.
Anyroom uses MoCA. Basically, it will use frequencies above Comcast's normal signals (possibly up around 1GHz and higher) on your cabling as an internal network. Just make certain you have good quality RG6 runs.
