I basically want to hook this monitor to a DVD player and my Dish 6000 satellite box. The Dish 6000 outputs 720p or 1080i via a VGA or a component output. It also resizes the screen via the remote control. Are you saying this monitor should be hooked up to a HTPC? In the future I may consider purchasing a video scaler.
To make the best use of the Monivision, you should use a HTPC for everything including TV viewing (internal tuner or hook-up of satellite to S-video input), DVD playback, video scaling, PVR, etc.
What are you looking for? Is native 720p very important for you? If so, Monivision is your best choice since it supports 720p natively and consumer-level HDTVs don't support 720p (they just downconvert it to 1080i).
If 720p isn't much of a big deal for you and you don't want to get rid of set-top boxes and you don't really care whether it is a computer monitor or a regular HDTV, then you are better off with a consumer-level HDTV. If, however, you are looking to jump into the HTPC arena, then you should definitely consider the Monivision as your HTPC display.
