El Paso, TX - HDTV - Page 41

I rescanned and now get KTSM with a 100 signal in LasCruces (though nothing on 9-2), KDBC with a 96 signal. I can't get anything for KVIA (7-1.2. or 3) but do get 7-4. KFOX is still there - whatever happened to them getting HD news?

Channel 22 (NMSU - PBS) is off air right now, but not getting any signal for -1 or -2.
Channel 47-1 is there, though the pix isn't any better.

I called KTSM yesterday about 12:30 as I wasn't getting anything. They told me to rescan and it did work. KCOS did not turn on dtv till last night late. Therefore, had to rescan again this morning. Now, this is the best I have EVER received from KCOS when it was analog. So far, I am getting everything including some stations that I don't want. LOL

I've also rescanned all my receivers today. Interesting that Channel 9.1 is their only signal! Wonder if they plan on bringing back their other material on 9.2? Receiving 7.1,7.2,7.3, and 7.4. Also 13.1 and 13.8 and 13.9 but there's only a video on 13.1. KRWG channel 22.1 (HD),22.2 (SD) and 22.3 (VME) are alive and well even though they are on the side lobe of my roof top antenna. Channel 4.1 and 4.2 are good strong signals. Channel 14.1 and 14.2 there Retro Network are alive and strong. Also receiving a number of stations from Mexico. Noticed that many of the stations across the border are still transmitting their analog signal!

Yeah, the plan for Mexico Switching to full digital I think it's at 2020 (see first post of thread)

Although some local stations plan to go digital soon, they have applied for FCC to reserve their digital tiers..

I'v been having this same problem with 7.1 and was hoping that with the transition last weekend the problem would be solved. But no such luck. The problem remains the same. So I've been avoiding channel 7.1 at all. Hope they fix it soon, because they have very good shows. I have a Magnavox HDTV. It's hard to think that the mexican TVAzteca HD channels are better that KVIA HD.

Well, I upgraded TV for a Samsung 40in LCD HD. Now for some reason KVIA is coming up poorly. The signal on the monitor is showing full strength but the channel is not coming in clear.

The issue I'm seeing is the video on the screen freezes then speeds up quickly then slows down and does it over and over. 7.1 is the only channel doing this, 7.2-7.4 are coming in clear with no issues and all the other stations are coming in clear with no issue either.

The video is not pixalated or boxing at all, the HD is coming in, but just freezes and speeds up quick. The audio never skips or shuts down, but the video issues.

I called KVIA, they claim all is well, I called Samsung, they say it's a station issue. I tend to agree with Samsung since the issue is only on one station.

Any help would be appreciated. Do I need a stronger antenna or what? KVIA tells me I live in the right spot for just bunny years and don't require a roof antenna, would is suggest?

it's actually not that hard to think that the Mexican TV Azteca channels have better HD quality because TV Azteca is a very rich network and its feed usually comes straight from Mexico City and KVIA can't compare with that. By the way does anyone know if we are ever going to be able to watch Ch. 22 from Las Cruces in El Paso??
The only HD on Azteca 7 (20-1) is the News (in-studio only), some occassional Soccer games, once a year the Superbowl and some Olympic events. The big channel from Azteca HD is Azteca 13 (11-1) morning shows, soap operas, news, etc.

Channel 22 (KWRG) has a nice documentary on the transition and building of their antenae: http://krwg-tv.org/almanac/AA_217.html

The antenae is located on top of A(ggie) Mountain, which is east of I-25 and the campus. A mountain is only 1/2 the height of the Organ and Franklin Mountains so I'd guess you won't be able to get the channels east of them. In the video, the view from the antenae looks like you'd be able to get line of sight in west El Paso and maybe west Juarez.

I had trouble getting KDBC 4 on Sunday PM on my Toshiba HDTV but yet I was able to get it on the Samsung in the other room. Also, I was also able to get it on my Phillips HD-DVR. It was weird as I was able to get full strength earlier in the day. Knowing how that station is so poor, it made me wonder if the station was having problems. All TV's are on a HDTV Antenna with a amplifier. I live up next to the mountain in Mesa Hills. Also, KVIA was off and on for a day or so. I think, contrary what they say, all stations are experiencing growing pains. BTW, channel 22 comes in great as does 13.
Actually most of the channels right now are in the process moving their antenna from side mounted to top mounted. KDBC even had a Crawly about this a couple of days ago.
I was able to pick up both Channels 22 in my House, since the transition is now completely gone, like they turned the power down a bit and not enough to reach everywhere..

What ever happened to 13-2, 13-3?
Yes I also wonder about KCOS 13's other channels 13.2 & 13.3 Also channel 9.1 used to have channel 9.2 and KRWG channel 22.2 was different programming than their HD 22.1. Thanks for 14.2, RETRO TV and 4.2 Amercia's Network but Channel 7 beats them all with CW, weather, and LATV.

9.2 will be back in Fall with a Latin TV type station from what I've read on some websites. As for PBS, KCOS just doesn't have the money to run the 13.1-.4 which included the national HD feed, which I miss!!!! Just be lucky if you have DirecTV that they broadcast the HD feed now, KVIA remains the only station that isn't sending an HD feed to DirecTV, which sucks.

9.2 will be carrying Estrella Network as soon as it launches nationwide.

There's a new 38.2 channel available I was watching it last Saturday, it was showing some globe-type logo on top, I think the name is "Viva" or something... yesterday we only have colored bars (old school) and it was saying that new new channel will be available soon.
I noticed the new Subchannel on 39-2, but it doesn't have any channel name on it.
So what's the FCC going to do along the Mexican border? There's sure a lot of analog broadcasting going on for the other side. Do you suppose they plan on erecting a giant Faraday cage type wall along the border fence? I wonder what the Canadian government did when we made the transition?
Anyone else notice that the Over the Air PSIP "guide data" except for kdbc and kfox is gone since the switch? I thought it was a a federal law that this had to be provided!
Has anyone else noticed that KFOX analog channel 14 is broadcasting a low power analog signal explaining the necessary steps to receive digital TV! They appear to be the only ones!
What's going on with KTSM, didn't they have to launch Estrella TV Yesterday on 9-2?
FAIL!

It's holiday weekend now, so maybe until Monday?

The 39.2 its on, also a religion channel but in Spanish...

The 22.1 it's at 25-35% signal strenght. I can see it from time to time now. Believe me I can't get any more juice out of my antenna, unless I build a 3rd story in my house or put up a radio tower type antenna on it.. LOL, yes I have a power amplifier/noise reducer device on it..

Don't you hate KTDO Telemundo lately? specially if they are airing a show that says HD all over the screen but it's on awful SD, ok they can't show HD somehow, but why the awful quality of the SD?
I didn't think Estrella TV had launched yet.

According to Wikipedia, Estrella TV was supposed to Launch on July 1st.
I spot checked a few [future] affiliates and none of them have launched it yet, so I would assume the July 1 date is wrong.

Perhaps July 1st 2010?? LOL

Was the NBC night news yesterday the most awful SD kind? it was something like a 16:9 image with upper and lower bars, then added the 4:3 sidebars to fit a regular tube, so the result was a tiny image in the screen, that there make me tuned to CBS instead, which it was glorious HD all the way.
The date I'm hearing is August 15. We'll see if this one sticks.

As far as I know, their New York station is not yet ready, and that might have had a lot to do with why they waited.

KTDO 47-1 was off last night, not much loss there.. LOL.

I'm hoping they are upgrading for HD or something..

I have notice in the last few days that KVIA has resumed broadcasting on both physical channels 7 and 17. This had been predicted on the national channel change thread on this forum. The signal quality is about the same on both frequencies for me here in Montana Vista but it would be interesing to hear some reception reports for Las Cruces or Alamogordo. The theory was that 17 is stronger. I can not imagine that KVIA want to pay double electric bills forever so more changes could be in the future.

KTSM will be firing up 16 today or tomorrow.
This is a test approved by the FCC while coverage studies are done.
Final determination as to final channel will be made at the conclusion of the study.

I just noticed that KTSM has started broadcasting on channel 16 now.
