Still with transmitter problems?
This morning KVIA on DirecTV was in HD; actually the no HD is an equipment problem, not a transmitter issue. Also, I have noticed something odd for the past couple of days (since Monday). On Good Morning El Paso, exactly at 6:10 am they will go to commercial: after the widescreen abcnews logo, there will be three 30 second *Widescreen*
national ads. This is very predictable, they have been doing this since Monday. I am not sure if they are getting closer to being able to record in HD or not. I also don't know if they are using old or new equipment, but whatever they are using now, they can record in widescreen SD (almost looks like EDTV). I will contact them soon. Maybe the reason they did not reply was that they were indeed doing some type of test on the new HD equipment.
On another note, the other day while browsing wikipedia to check on KFOX-TV's fate, since they are up for sale, found that someone posted that they were developing a noon newscast for this fall. Does anyone know if this is true? They did not cite their source and KFOX's website has nothing. If this does happen, this will be the first noon newscast in El Paso (other than KVIA) since KTSM discontinued it around 2008/2009. Hopefully the new owner will continue to allow KFOX to be a major player in the local news market. It also seems like KTSM has lost their steam in the local news coverage. I remember just 4 years ago, they were the top dog when it came to news, they debuted the first El Paso HD newscast on August 3, 2008 at 5 PM. Now they hardly have any news coverage (especially in the morning) and reporters/anchors seem to come and go frequently.
That being said, here is my list of the top El Paso news stations: (please submit your own list)
1. KVIA [ABC7]
3.KTSM [NewsChannel 9]
