With a 180-gig drive I have recorded 19 hours before the disk full light came on. .........
I have reviewed all of the prior pages in this post. Quite lengthy but informative. There was quite a bit of discussion on disk swap.
Jeffshome's comment seems to be conclusive that the zenith can record beyond 137 gb.
Requesting confirmation that a 200 or 250 gb drive would essentially give increased storage as the corresponding multiple of 80GB/8hr ratio (ignoring for the purpose of this discussion, the effect of bit rate variation).
Here is a great deal at dell.com: WD 200GB 7200RPM 8MB Cache HD for $299.95 - 20% (until 7/29/03) - $120 rebate = $120 net cost. Search for A0080840
Question 2: Has anyone purchased extended warranty (3 years /$90). Opinions of its value?
I am hoping that one point, it will have a software upgrade to allow us to watch one show while recording another. It was rather an unpleasant surprise out of a PVR. Despite these minor quirks, the picture is simply so stunning that I would not want to bother to return it.
I am wondering if the extended warranty would be of any value (assuming no swapping of drive of course) for such upgrades. I wonder if companies like JandR or onecall & such would actually try to fix these or simply send them to the factory for refurbishment (which could get us updated firmware/software). I have to assume that these PVRs have proprietary software that the average repair facility cannot have access to.
