It's official - DirecTV to carry HDNet Movies, Discovery HD, ESPN HD - July 1, 2003! - Page 7

I was right the CSR'S have no info and even their mgrs don't

Still nothing on D*'s News page or prnewswire's latest 100 page. Strange

I know I should not ask but I wonder if there is any chance that maybe espn hd will show up before July 1, the announcement was for a new "package" that included a channel we already receive (Hd Net) for free. Wishful thinking I know but not out of the question.

It's not prnewswire, it's businesswire:

Great news and the price looks right. Hopefully the mention of the NFL in the press release will mean we will get at least one game on Sundays this fall!

:)

Bosskiller, I don't know how you can be disappointed at this. As for 6 or so HD channels, what other channels are there right now that can be picked up? As we don't have a national feed system for broadcast network HD, I think this will push DirecTV to 100% of all currently available HD channels. With the HD-DirecTiVo coming out soon, what more can you ask for from DirecTV? Remember, they are not making the PVR, so it is largely out of their hands. The only thing missing really is IEEE-1394 support.

HD heaven! So how and when do we sign up?

We already know we get one (ESPN). This means we *will* get 2. DirecTV doesn't announce stuff that isn't for sure.

I wonder if this will be included in the total choice premier package? While it is tempting to add these channels for $11 I will stick to just HBO HD. $53 is better than $64.

Excellent news! I think $11 is a decent price, plus DiscoveryHD will keep the wife happy :)

Now to keep or drop HBO on the first.....

I imagine you'll be able to add it via the D* website. You can change your subscription to add/subtract any package you want.
Someone brought this up on another forum. Now that HDNet is part of a package, does that mean -- starting July 1 -- that it will no longer be a stand-alone channel that we can get for free?

Thanks.
I wonder how many people will switch from E* to D*!!! :D
post #194 of 815
Hey Mod you can change the title of this thread now.

Oh and by the way, good job Phoenix for reporting.

My hats off to Philip Swann

Last but not least, D* now you have to deliver. With July 1st, as your date, you will see why we called so many times.July 1st will show that we didnt not go quitely into the night, we didnt vanish without a fight, we are going to live on and have more HD. Watch out, get more phones, because July 1st is our Independence Day. :)

LOL

I'm really not, I was just messing around. ESPN HD and HDNET movies is a great addition, I think Discovery HD is icing on the cake. I have a hard time picking up locals OTA HD so I would love to have CBS, ABC, and NBC and WB but I'm very happy with the current events.

Dunno about prnewswire, but in the past the D* news page did not update in anywhere near to real time - it has usually been at least a day before new pr releases appeared on that page.

The price is ok but I do not watch ESPN SD, HDNET was ok for free, HDNET Movies are not my taste, and the only shows I watch on Discovery are the MONSTER shows but as far as I can tell they will not be in HD.

However, I do like first run movies on Saturday night in HD. So unless they add a HBO or Show I am out.
To each his own I know I am excited
I'm definitely not complaining, but I was also hoping to get HBO-HD and/or Showtime-HD as part of the package.
Now maybe HDNet be 24 hours a day.

It would have been nice to have them in the package as well but from what I read the quality leaves allot to be desired so I won't miss them

If we are paying for it, it had better be. :p

WOOOOOOOO FREAKIN HOOOOOOOOOO!!!!

I have had a Receiver sitting here for a year with no access card in it because I was waiting for this day!

Great Job I firmly believe it was this forum that forced D* to make a rushed announcement Today!

And by the way the CSR I spoke with to get a card and sign up,asked me for the website that that this was released on, I replied Call Bob Mercer!
You do know who he is dont you?
Does anyone know the channel # for ESPN Yet
post #205 of 815
I know I am going to get this package for sure! This package, along with HBO and Showtime, and my OTA's gives me almost 20 HD channels!

I only wish they would have somehow priced it into the Premium services structure.

Why? Are you going to sit there and watch it until it turns on!!
YES
On the phone with a CSR, who says the free except for shipping requires a 1 year commitment to Showtime. Is that true?
NO
