It's official - DirecTV to carry HDNet Movies, Discovery HD, ESPN HD - July 1, 2003! - Page 3

Ohhh....Thanks. Me dumb. I kept looking within the web page, but then finally went to the IE menu bar. Yeah, it's there alright. Next step is for someone in the media to call their press spokespeople and get a confirmation, denial or, most likely, "no comment." On the other hand, they might want to reap some publicity from this, even though they'd have to provide the five "W's" of news writing.

Call DirecTV, they have a number of options, including a free Sat C kit if you do the install yourself, shipping is about $8.

I dont get it though. If we can find it, does this mean that the text is hidden or waiting to be posted on the website.

It looks like they told the web guys to get the new page ready. So they did. All they have to do is remove the rem lines and whammo!

Hopefully the negotiations with these networks is all signed, sealed and delivered. Otherwise D* just showed its hand big time. No more concessions by the networks if they already know D* is taking their last offer.
Man now you guys did it. Good job on finding it. Hopefully D* can deliver sooner than later.

I spot checked the source on a number of other pages (premium services, home, etc.) in an attempt to find other remarked source for HD launch. Nada. When they do go live, a host of other pages need to be modified as well, you would think anyway. So either those other pages have been revised and simply not been posted, or they are not ready yet. Don't know if the version control they implemented on the HDTV page is normal or aberration.

Neverthess, this is VERY encouraging!!

Not if past history is any measure.

wait if you look at it again, i see the NBA HD there with May 31,2003.

Why would they still have that if the new HD channels are supposed to be an update?

The NBA stuff was uncommented up until yesterday (and therefore viewable from a browser) at which time it got commented out and the new stuff added. The ESPN page is just an image, no source at least not right now.

Over on another forum, a subscriber claims to have been told that June 6 is the big day for these channels. We shall see.

Quick check the source code on E* 's website....:D

I would guess E* and D* will have similar packages and prices.

Also I hope ESPN's Corporate negotiations lawyers don't monitor AVS.

Six degrees of separation, man. They know about it by now.

This has to be the best find I have seen on this forum since I joined. Excellent job!

I probably would have taken another movie or sport channel over Discovery HD, but all in all I'm very very happy and excited. :D

Not to complain either, but here in metro New York City it sure would be nice if they offered the network affiliates' high def'/digital signals which we lost (except for WCBS OTA) on 9-11.

Had to see the source for myself! That is awesome and I will be waiting anxiously for an announcement in the next few days.

Directv may be back in the lead shortly!
s2silber, if they offered any locals in HD, that would probably be the first one. You are in the number 1 media market and there is a large gap in HDTV now.

There is also a decent chunk of new HDTV channels coming soon, aren't there? I know that Bravo announced an HD channel, but I would think that more non-broadcast channels would be coming with HD in the near future as well.

You guys are pretty funny. It sounds like Christmas in here :). But really though, haven't we already known about this for some time now?. I mean, all indications have been pointing directly to it haven't they? It's seemed pretty much only a matter of time and details (which it still is). I think the biggest question which somebody else alluded to is how good will they all look?...

Man, who knew Phillip Swann could code HTML, much less hack a website? :)

mythical_phenix, thanks and kudos on discovering this great nugget of HDTV info  I had to save the source as an HTML file and remove the comment tags -- as I couldn't resist viewing it as a Web page.

Just to be devil's advocate, it's remotely possible this could be a get-em-to-hang-on ploy to have that commented snippet in the source. But highly doubtful -- and probably some junior webmaster thought they were saving some time and being ready early. Anyway, THANKS!

Woooooooooooot!!!!!!!!!!! C'mon, let it be so...
