Thanks. Would be nice for some news about moves such as this, but, seeing that it is essentially acknowledging a failure not surprised there wasn't any.

Maybe they could take the money they'll be saving from the harebrained, now canceled INC Now and invest in something like this that actually makes sense?

Per WFWA's Facebook page and an article in Saturday's Journal Gazette.

Detailed link WFWA Announcement

This July marks the return of High-Definition broadcasting to PBS39 as, officially, on July 4 at 7:30pm, we re-introduce channel PBS39/39-1 as PBS39HD. This high-definition transition marks a full-circle moment for the station.

WFWA PBS39 was the first TV station in northeast Indiana to begin broadcasting a digital signal in February 2004.....................and now, through the grace and generosity of our community partners, particularly the Madge Rothschild Foundation, this July, PBS39 is proud to bring our viewers PBS39HD as we welcome back full-time High-Definition broadcasting to all the communities we serve.

Let me be the first to say Thank You to the Madge Rothschild foundation!!!!

WFWA 39-1 looks beautiful.

On the other hand, WPTA 21-2 is un-watchable. One would think with more bandwidth available now that 21-3 is gone, it would have gotten better. Looks like the "one step forward, two steps back" syndrome at work again.

I second that. I can't watch 21-2 anymore.

Come on WPTA lets get going and get 5.1 surround sound in place. Your the last station in Fort Wayne to get it done! You might want to contact WFWA to see there new dolby 5.1 surround sound equipment, which they showed on air last night at 7:30 PM. Nice!

Well the thing is... I can get video that looks as good - or better - over the internet. I can also watch internet video on my LCD screen with really good quality. And another nail goes in the coffin.

Most of the video I watch online looks 5 times better than what I get on 21-2. So I totally agree.

We are waiting on a new module to correct the 21-2 problem. But until the CW starts feeding the signal in digital, it will never be as good as it should be. We are currently converting the analog signal to digital. The analog feed is not the cleanest so when converted it is soft and has some "noise" in the video.

Locally we would like to provide 5.1 but due to budget constraints, we are not currently able to get money approved for the needed equipment.

It is looking very good. Is Wfwa at the increased power now? Also take a look at the new 2080 foot tower going up in Tokyo, Japan. It is called the tokyo Sky tree. We need a version like this here. Oh well that when hell freezes over.

I know I've seen CW in HD on FTA. Are these feeds not still active? That doesn't sound right.

I think he meant that the CW plus signal is not in digital. I know the prime time shows are sent in HD, but 21 downgrades the signal.

That is correct. The CW Plus signal is still analog but Primetime is offered in HD. This fall we are planning on taking the HD feed and downconverting it to SD digital but maintaining it in 16x9. This will help primetime look much better. We will also then start airing the 10pm news in 16x9.
This is all due to installation of new HD video servers.
With the new servers, we will be able to start airing syndication in HD this fall along with capability for HD commercials.

Here is a basic rule of thumb regarding the Indiana's News Center Viper-HD Radar: If you glance outside and perceive a reason to view it; there is a better than 50-50 chance that, for whatever reason; it isn't being broadcast at that time.
Agreed. I like how 15.2 does it. Radar all the time, along with the national weather service broadcast. 49.3 out of muncie has a decent radar all the time also.
Right now is a good example. Radar please!
Agreed on the 21.3 radar. Rarely do I immediately need to know what the low temp will be 6 days from now, but there are times when I immediately need to know where the storm clouds are right now. Only show the radar, the rest of the stuff I can wait for the newscast to inform me. Because the times when I flipped to 21.3/33.3 for the radar, and it hasn't been the radar, I only ever go to 15.2 out of habit now.
Starting very soon, 33.3 will no longer be airing any weather forecasts or commercials/promos. It will back just like it was when it aired on 21.3..

Is anyone else getting a constant poping sound on CBS - WANE? For the last few days every 2 seconds I am getting pops in the audio. I'm sure it isn't my equipment. It happens on 2 different receivers. One on my TV that uses analog stereo sound and the other on my surround sound that bitstreams DD over the optical out. On my 5.1 system it sounds like it is coming mostly from the rear channels.

Edit: I just check the South Bend affiliate and it's fine. So it isn't coming from the network like that.
I am getting the popping also. It is really annoying. The PGA Championship looks great, but this noise is awful.

As of Monday, The inserts on 33.3 will end and we are also working on having the radar up full time without any interuptions includeing when the weather person is setting up for a weathercast.

How was that particular time chosen?
