Fort Wayne, IN - HDTV - Page 132

post #3931 of 4210
There's a fine new network associated with Tribune Media featuring a great schedule of classic TV. It's called "Antenna TV". It's a multicast channel in Indianapolis. If anyone from the Fort Wayne TV stations staff reads this forum, it may be a nice suggestion as a multicast station (channel 15 "Cool TV" -- are you listening?).
post #3932 of 4210
Agreed. I live in southern Adams County and can pick up WXIN 59.2 out of Indy sometimes (Antenna TV). Hands down, way better than CoolTV. 15.2 needs to change, definately aren't helpin themselves showin that stuff.

So I just saw a crawl on 15 provided through Dish that Dish may lose Wane effective tomorrow. Any idea what that is about?

$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$

WANE is part of a 17 market station group that is negotiating a new carriage contract.

Hmm, I see. But, I thought the FCC had rules so that local stations must be carried.

Each station makes an election for each cable/satellite provider. The station chooses whether they are "must carry" (forced carriage without compensation) or "consent to carry" (negotiated carriage with compensation possible). DISH has made the offer to carry the station ... that is all they are required to do. If LIN does not give consent for their signals to be rebroadcast it would be illegal for DISH to carry them. LIN is currently withholding their consent in exchange for an increase in what DISH pays them.

"LIN Media, a corporate media conglomerate, is threatening to block DISH Network customers from watching its local channels in 17 markets across the country. LIN Media is demanding more than a 140 percent rate hike and other burdensome contract terms that ultimately will result in higher prices for consumers. We are pleased the FCC is meeting this week to seek changes to the outdated retransmission consent process. In the meantime, DISH Network is diligently negotiating with LIN Media, and we're hopeful we can reach a fair agreement."

Well, Dish subscribers in the Ft Wayne area are screwed, as WANE is blocked.

This is so stupid. I'm a huge NCAA Basketball fan, and this childish dispute will cause me to miss todays OSU-Wisconsin game.

thankfully you can watch the games on sportsline.com, otherwise we would be completely out of luck. I cannot get an antenna installed where I live, and WANE is the only channel that doesn't come in on my rabbit ears.

What an embarrassment.

Oh, and another note:

My Dish channel 15 says: "Mad about the loss of WANE? Contact Alan Riebe, Station Mgr/Dir of Sales at 260-426-6029 or alan.riebe@wane.com."

I'd love to hear if this is something that WANE has any control over, as I thought it was something the LIN was negotiating, the individual locals have no control. Can anyone confirm/deny?

It is a corporate thing ... but the local station managers have been echoing the company line so perhaps speaking to them will send a message back to headquarters.
post #3940 of 4210
This is insane! I really think the TV corporation owners already make enough money. So the satellite companies make some money off of carrying the local signals. Big deal. I don't believe the TV stations have to pay much money for use of the airwaves. This just irritates the viewers and makes us realize that we can really get along without certain stations.

Nice crawl regarding 21 & 33 shutting down for maintenance. Anyone consider adding WHEN this is going to happen to the crawl?

LIN and DISH have reached agreement and stations are back on this morning.

So 21&33, looks like you need to fix your PSIP server.

Hey guys:

Just an FYI: last nights storm caused a major fiber outage from our Indy hub. The service provider is working hard to get us back up and running normally. But at the moment, we are not able to pass HD full time again until this issue gets resolved.

Thanks for your patience.

Wow, that stinks. Thanks for the heads up. Hope you get it resolved soon.

Follow up: the problem has crept back in. Waiting for the service provider to find the issue again. As a result, we are trying to switch manually via sat and its not pretty.

Thanks again for your patience.

Hi jckrac,

I wanted to check and see if this issue had been resolved. Having some reception problems out here near Cook Rd and Coldwater Rd. Using two Channel Master 4221HD Multi-Bay UHF Short Range HDTV Antennas and don't have any tall trees nearby, so I'm stumped. Things work great in the morning, but around 6 ~ 7 PM the reception goes to hell.

Anyone from 33 on? You're broadcasting a split picture, something is wrong.

The referenced issue before didn't affect our ability to broadcast OTA transmissions but rather the fact we weren't able to pass HD video during the outage period. In that regard nothing has changed here. Even if we dropped down in power in a major fashion at your distance it shouldn't affect you.

I shouldn't be surprised, but I guess I am. Last night, at 10:10pm, there was a large storm that rolled through Auburn. I turned it over to 33.3, and guess what I didn't see.... THE RADAR. Again, when you'd really need it, it was showing the current high/low record temps. I would be willing to bet that no one (and I mean that) in the viewing area cares about that trivia when storms are rolling through the area. The programming for 33.3 should be like this:

while (1) {
showradar();
}

That's it... pretty simple. The only reason I turn to 33.3 over 15.3 (which always has the radar), is that 33.3 has an animation and you can see which way the storms are moving.

Could someone at WANE check the PSIP computer? It has had no schedule info updates for a while on 15.1. Thanks.

Thanks for the heads up. The problem has been identified and taken care of. Guide data should be back up now.

Both WISE and WPTA now have new HD Encoders and were put online this afternoon. This will solve the motion blurring problems. You should see a much better quality of picture on all channels. If you have any problems please let me know.

ENGjas,
Watching the hockey game of 33 and the picture is much better. No breakup at all. Good work.

Anyone know what the Fox affiliate moving to 33.2 will mean as far as over-the-air high def reception of Fox programming?
