Question for DirecTV subscribers....

How do you like the new HD user interface?
Is anyone else noticing a problem with the 5.1 audio on 15-1 OTA?

It's not constant, but at times, it sounds like the sound is coming through a tin can. I really notice it during commercials, particularly today during the "Man on a Ledge" movie commercial.

I only ask about the broadcast audio because I haven't noticed any issues on any other channels or while watching blu-rays.

*EDIT: Also noticed it on the 1&1.com commercial. But the following commercial was a Sprint iPhone commercial, and it sounded fine.

Will check into it. Thanks for bringing it to our attention.

I have been having audio/video issues with 33 on DTV for some time now. Lately its just been video related. I thought it might be due to dish pointing or wind but after ruling those out I searched the web. Glad to see Im not the only one having these issues but sad at the same time because I had video freezes just this evening. Audio was fine. So it would seem to me the problem has not been completely fixed. Anyone else still having problems?

Note: DTV receivers are HR24-100s, video glitches happen on both.

Love it. I dont notice any major performance differences but the interface looks so much more modern and sleek.

Yes, DirecTV/WISE is still experiencing this issue on specific DirecTV model receivers. I can assure you that everyone in the Ft Wayne, IN DMA is experiencing the same issues on HR24, H24, and H25 model receivers.

If you are a DirecTV customer and are experiencing an issue with WISE video glitches, please be sure to voice your concerns within this thread as well filling out the linked form and sending to DirecTV.

I called them and got the obligatory "the broadcaster is aware."

Very worried about the Super Bowl! This issue has been going off and on for months now..

Your optimism is refreshing.

What progress/changes have been made or are planned for this week?

Thanks In Advance.

I believe that the issue may be resolved. Please let me know if you continue to see issues. It has been clean since 4:00pm Monday. There were some changes made then. It appeared to be an issue with how the DirecTV receivers are decoding the WISE signal regarding bandwidth.

most definately not fixed. I monitored WISE broadcasts from 5:30 pm til 7:00 pm on Monday on an H24-200 (one of the affected models) receiver. The Doctors and INCNews at 6 were terrible. Nightly news at 6:30 was not as bad.

Tonight, Tuesday, the Nightly News @ 6:30 is freezing frequently and is unwatchable.

You may want to call DirecTV. We have three different models that were having problems before the changes. Now they are all solid. I would have to look at the models that we have, I can't remember what they are. I know one is a H20 model.

What changes were made?

Dr. Phil was unwatchable.

Please check your PMs.

One of our engineers has the same model as you and has confirmed the problem is still with that model. We will inform DirecTV that they still have a issue.

The 5:00 AM INC News Today broadcast was unwatchable. Video froze more often that it was fluid.

Do you have a time when that happened?

I will not be able to monitor first hand until this evening.

Thanks!

I can confirm that Channel 33 has clean audio and video across all model lines of DirecTV receivers.

Thanks for your hard work. And especially thanks for your updates in this thread.

Cudos to ENGjas for saving the Super Bowl!!

Good Luck!!

For the last couple of days at least, WANE 15.1 (But NOT 15.2 !!) has been missing show info in the data stream. It is blank.
This is messing up my MythTV recording schedules. Can someone please fix this?

Thanks.

you should consider a Schedules Direct subscription. Well worth to $10 or $20 a year (can't remember which).

Got it fixed late this afternoon. Also now have dynamic information available for Antenna TV as well.

$25 annual now, well worth it for me.

Is there any more info on 15-2 listings on my DISH VIP722 through an OTA antenna? I'm not sure why I'm not getting any listings info, but I understand the provider has to send them down, it doesn't just come through the usual PSIP routs as it does OTA.

Also, WANE always sounds like it's coming through a tin can. That's nothing new here. Most of the net and syndicated shows I've seen on WANE seem to have had that problem for a long time. Doesn't matter which TV I watch it through, it always seems to sound that way during said programming.

BTW, I'm not trying to hammer on you, jckrac. Just noting my observation. Thanks.

Observations always welcome. That is part of the reason I monitor this forum.

As far as the "tin can" sound: Its a regular visitor on 60 Minutes and so far I have yet to figure out why. And its usually only present when there is a voice over. I haven't heard it regularly anywhere outside that show but will listen closer to see if I can hear what you are describing.

As far as the EPG on Dish, the way its described to me is that the listing company sends it to Dish and Dish takes it from there. We've contacted both sides and both sides point the finger at the other. Looks like I'll have to ping both again.

I don't watch Letterman much anymore, but I used to hear it a lot on that show, especially noticeable during applause. I've heard it on quite a few of the other CBS programs too. I'll try and let you know what and when then next time I notice it.

I thought originally that it was one of those simulated surround settings on my TV, but I have three different sets, all different manufacturers and they all do it, only on WANE.

That would be awesome, if you could. I would watch/DVR a lot of those cool old shows on Antenna TV, but the lack of guide data kinda messes up that idea, especially where the DVR is concerned.

Anyway, thank you for the reply. It's far less frustrating to have a concerned ear when an issue comes along.

The time reported on the guide and program information screens hasn't changed to DST for WANE 15-1, 15-2, & 15-3. Other Fort Wayne area OTA channels are reporting the correct time. I'm using a Zenith DTT900 converter.

editted - Monday Mar. 12: Looks like it's been fixed. The time shown for WANE channels 15-1, 15-2, & 15-3 is now correct.
