KOLR sux.

Really looks bad right now.

edit: That must have just been the promo, the game looks clear.

I called and complained and also complained via Twitter, their station engineer is David Smith. He knows what the problem is, and it's been there for 2 years at least. They reboot the encoder and it goes away for a bit, but it will come back. Why they can't replace it or figure out what's wrong is just amazing, and pathetic.

A post from 2009 from rhoops, 2+ years and they still haven't figured it out...

Our engineers watched it Friday and agree with you. We're just not sure what to do about it other than re-boot the Tandberg encoder, which I did at 2:30 PM Friday. The ASI out of the CBS rack looked OK.

The CBS setup uses the Tandberg all the time. The Fox setup bypasses the Tandberg when in HD. Trying to fix this is a little bit like changing the tire on a moving car, with 200,000 people watching.

Power on both DT's is nominal 97 and 98%. Analog is perking along at 50%.

Some months ago I pointed David Smith to a part of this thread where we were discussing this issue.
He thanked me and fixed it, but of course the fix was temporary.

Just caught a Seinfeld rerun on KSFX and noticed it is 4:3 stretched to 16:9 when it was always pillarboxed before. I found it very irritating, I hate when the aspect ratio isn't correct. Is this a permanent change? I noticed the Have I Met Your Mother reruns are still pillarboxed. Weird.

It is. They're heading HD with this stuff. I just saw a King of Queens rerun on KSFX that is in some form of 16:9.

That's too bad. I absolutely hate an incorrect aspect ratio, drives me nuts. I'd rather they zoomed in and cut off top and bottom than any kind of stretching. I guess I'm a minority though. My in-laws bought an LCD HDTV to use with Dish SD and they have the TV set permanently to stretch 4:3 into 16:9. I couldn't tolerate it.

Seinfeld is syndicated in HD now. I didn't see last night's episode, but the ones I've watched previously on KSFX are HD widescreen, not anamorphic SD. Are you sure it was stretched?
I'm positive. Everyone looked squatty and wide. It was also blurry like stretched SD. I'm very sensitive to incorrect aspect ratio, it's like the visual equivalent to nails on a chalkboard to me. Wouldn't they have to either stretch it or zoom to get it widescreen? I thought it was recorded way too long ago to be true HD widescreen.

Seinfeld was shot on 35mm film. The syndicated HD shows were remastered to be in 16:9 widescreen.

Some info from Wikipedia, or Google for some other discussions.

I started another thread and was told to come here. Does anybody know if WCFN-My 49 had plans to go HD in future

Last night's episode was definitely an incorrect aspect ratio, even my wife noticed. It may have been a one time thing, either that or there is some stretch involved in the HD remastering. I emailed KOLR/KSFX and got a reply that there was a technical issue.

No idea about the dropouts though...
Thanks for the reply. The graininess has been there for a long time, but the dropouts started recently. I think it was my tuner card. I updated the drivers and haven't had dropouts since.

I guess the lack of engineering has allowed them to start doing HD news. Still looks like crap and cheaply done. But its Nexstar, what should I expect?

KSPR might be adding 2 Digital Sub Channels soon because at silcondust website this week one day for Digital Antenna for 66062 it showned KSPR having 2 unknown channels and theirs lots of Digital Sub Channels not here yet like METV,Antenna TV,The Cool TV, The Country Network,This TV,Estella TV,Untamed Sports,Universal Sports,Tuffy TV and so on.
If true, that should make abc-720p look good on 33-1 (NOT).

You mean KSFX? They're on 28. KSPR is on 19 and already DOES dual HD.
Yes CW but no Digital Sub Channel like KY3. 24/7 Weather.
Okay KCTV5 owns MYKSMOTV but it is not a Digital Sub Channel.
CW is a sub channel.

33.2 IS a subchannel, running the CW programming.

I see KOLR and KSFX local news is now HD. Didn't think this would happen for a long time. Surprised me.

So are KSPR and KY3.

I guess they spent a few bucks on engineering. KSFX was overlaying Local HD with a WX bug and not dropping to SD.

In the past, wasn't this a technical limitation of the Fox splicer?

It was. The software upgrade was out there for a long time to do this, and they've finally implemented it

KSFX is losing FOX on 9/1 to that piece of crap KRBK that no one can freaking get. Time to complain to the FCC and anyone else that will listen. KRBK has no damn signal, and I won't pay to get their lowbrow programming.

That really sux, especially for us OTA folks.

Edit:
I just called their Springfield office (417-522-0020) and was told they are "installing new transmitters" and should have
them up & running by the time of the switch over.
There is a FAQ on their website too ( http://www.krbkhd.com/station/faq ).

Well that sucks. The CP coverage area doesn't even reach Arkansas. And most people here have a hard time picking up KFTA FOX Ft Smith.
they say they are carried on Dish Network, and they are, but not in High Def.

Springfield viewers may not get a decent signal either, with all our antennas pointed toward Fordland. I have no intention of turning mine. Screw Fox.
