Beautiful Tube! I hope its PQ is as good as the 910 looks in pics. Right on time too.

I actually did my weekly live chat with a person at Sony using the customer service live sales chat feature. The guy had info on the 910 and told me it will be on their site for sale sometime in July (old news), but told me the price will be $2500.00

I wonder when the showrooms will actually get these in stock. Would be nice to see the new picture tube.

Reading through the forums, "Picture Freezes" and "jumping channels" are usually not good things!

No it will upconvert 720p to 1080i since the Sony's are native 1080i only.

Neither good or bad, it is just fine though.

There are hardly any CE devices which will display 720P, unless they are fixed pixel devices that can only do 720P, or a multi-scan CRT front PJ.

Its good if you have a 720p only source like some video games. For regular HD broadcasts its not needed since the STBs can convert 720p to 1080i themselves. Native 720p is better, but only multisync monitors like the Monovisions do that.

Native is always better... but not many can do it (except as noted above).

Maybe the Lowe (sp?) Aconda direct view can do 720P. It should given how much is costs!

converting 720p to 1080i is a bad thing, perhaps not as bad as converting it to 480p, but bad none the less. You lose the progressive nature of the format, losing all the advantages that holds, and gain NO resolution since the source material is 720p, you do however, risk adding artifacts.

If you are follower of Joe Kane, you could say that the 910, even with its supposed increased resolution, is still not what an HDTV should be since it cannot natively display a 720p signal.

Joe would say that the 910 is just an improvement over an existing standard definition design, not the revolutionary improvement required for true HDTV.

I was under the impression that the XBR800 (current set I own and hate, check my posts on this forum) would do 720P and 1080i and not upconvert....oh well.

I'll be trying real hard in the next month to get my set replaced with the 910 from Circuit City, if it all falls through though if anyone wants to purchase the XBR800 from me I would sell the hunk of junk for dirt cheap, under a thousand. According to other posters on this forum, the stuff I'm experiencing (ugly splotches, streakes, vertical lines, etc. on the sides when on a white background) is normal (?) for that set. I can't put up with that crap from a product that is SUPPOSED to be excellent.

The 910 looks like it will be a great set....hopefully it won't suffer from the same problems the 800 has. I was under the impression that getting a tube tv over rear-projection would give me better blacks and whites, too bad my whites have blue splotches in them! Probably should have just stuck with my 10 year old 27 inch.

I had to put KV-34XBR910 in the search field to find it (not listed under the HDTVs, at least that I could see). I called SonyStyle and they said they have no information on when they would start selling it.

Sounds like you really have a lemon on your hands. Lots of people have owned the 800's and have not experienced what you describe. I still believe you have recourse w/Sony as your TV is covered under their 2 yr. Warranty. You also have the added protection of the CC 5-Year Extended Warranty that call for a replacement.

If you want the 910, you'll need to wait a few months for them to be properly distributed, and for the older 800's to be totally out of stock. You can't really ask for the upgraded 910 as a replacement when they have not even been released in the marketplace. Your warranties cover the 800's, and if either CC or Sony can find you a new one, that covers their responsibility. Sometimes, the Store or Sony will go the extra length to satisfy a disgruntled customer, and it depends on how you approach them, etc. I'd be interested in how Sony and/or CC treats your situation and hope you keep us posted. Thanks for the tip. When I first started having these problems I went to the Circuit City near where I go to college (Charlotte) and they told me that if the set needed to be replaced they could just give me a store credit towards any other set in the store if I wanted to. I have not asked the Circuit City here in Raleigh where I live if they are willing to do that. When I went in a couple weeks ago before the tube was replaced with the 2nd service call, they said if the television was still not fixed after that service call then they would replace it. I'm not sure what the term "replace' refers to in this instance, whether they would be willing to give me the store credit for another television (the 910) or just swap the 800 out for a new 800.... I suppose I could let them know the store in Charlotte told me they would do it and I could just wait till I go back to college and get them to do that. That might make them want to do it at their store... I can wait a little bit though until the 910 arrives in stores. I do have the 5 year warranty so I have time on my side but I'm just really annoyed and impatient with the 800 I have now as I have owned it for nearly a year and it has never been satisfied. I would have returned it immediately had I noticed the problems at first. I purchased the set about a month before going back to college and only briefly checked it out before then turning it back on about a month later at college..... I had a ton of stuff to do.

Any ideas on the price of the 30XBR910? I'm guessing $1999 since the 30HS510 is now listed on the Sears web site at $1499.

I posted what a guy from sony style told me. Out in July on there site for sale for $2500.00

I can't believe the 30" will go for $2500, maybe the 34" will go for that. If that's the case I'll definitely pass on it.
