I've read your situation previously. I know you're ticked, and have good right to be, but you also know that you have unfortunately acquired a "Lemon". I own an XBR800, and have never experienced your problems. In fact, my TV has preformed flawlessly since the day I got it.
You are fortunately covered completely by the Sony Warranty as well as the CC 5-Year Warranty. If you're not sure about the Sony Tubes, maybe CC will swap for another brand or allow you to get a Plasma Screen or something else for the difference. You do have options.
