Discovery HD on TimeWarner Cable!  

The channel was activated today here in Southern Maine, but it is dark at this point. Hopefully tomorrow or the next day we'll see the programming start.

Just got a recorded message from TW stating that DiscoveyHD will go live in San Diego on July 1st. Can't wait to see those beautiful Aboriginal breasts in HD!

Discovery HD Theater goes live on TWC in Mionneapolis August 1.

For those of you who wish to be informed on finding hidden stations, I will share the secret. On your box, hold down select and exit together until the box displays "DIAG". Then once their you can tune to diagnostics on channel 611, or Discovery which is hiding on 280. Enjoy!

Each cable system headend no doubt has different settings. That SELECT/EXIT holddown lets me select diagnostics mode (Channel 1999 here) for the next channel tuned after 'DIAG' appears on my 3100HD LED panel. But HD channels can't be selected for diagnostic analysis following new channel additions some months back.

Not surprisingly, channel 280 is blank on NYC's TWC system. What's unclear is how to locate 'hidden' channels while in diagnostics. What page in diagnostics is used, and what can you read in diagnostics indicating it's Discovery in HDTV? Here, the Manhattan TWC system keeps the United Nations channel (78) hidden for some reason; it's not visible in the on-screen program menu, but tunes if you tap in "78." It's also one of the few switched analog channels, not 256 QAM delivered, from my headend.

So, was DIAG used to locate a hidden HDTV Discovery on 280 or another channel, which was then tuned for normal HD viewing? Anyone else have success with this technique?

Here, NYC TWC just provided WB from WPIX-DT unannounced. It just appeared suddenly. There's no indication of Discovery HD in our HD channel lineup (701-714), although stories suggest TWC will add more HD channels soon. -- John

Discovery HD in Charlotte, NC is no longer in the "hidden mode" on 280 it's now available for us all to enjoy!!! That does seems weird thought...why would they not give a notice? Oh well I'll take is anyway we can get it.

Here in Goldsboro I have yet to find Discovery HD. : (

How did you find 711 in NY? I got into diag but 711 shows not valid.

That seems to confirm what I mentioned above, that you can check diagnostics for SDTV channels but not the HDTVs (711 = WPIX-DT). I was able to check all the HD channels in diagnostics last summer--before they added a big batch of SDTVs. Perhaps someone will uncover a technique to see 701-714 in diagnostics. -- John

Well this is weird, 280 is still hidden here on the Gastonia system. But now instead of Discovery it's showing WHYY, a PBS station out of Philadelphia (that's the only call letters I saw, so I'm assuming)! I guess someone will figure it out tomorrow :)

No Discovery in West Allis today. I'm losing my patience!

Discovery HD on TWC is just being rolled out in some areas as long as the plant has approval to do it.Its on in some areas because thay have the permission.It was announced that it would be rolled out in the summer but notice there was no exact date!Soon enough TWC will have it everywhere they have HD available.Some areas may not have the banwith space or may still be in the testing stages.So the announcing of availability is up to each individual division.I know some folks at TW and theyre working pretty hard to get all the HD they can get(within reasonable costs)!

Discovery HD went live on the TWC system in Summerville, SC yesterday, July 1. They sent a letter with the announcement that arrived today. In addition they ran an ad in the local paper last week as well. Maybe they're finally paying attention to customer service...... naaaah it must be an oversite.
