Ordered JVC 40000 from Amazon Today

Thread Starter
I ordered a JVC 40000 from Amazon.com that comes from Office Depot today. They are saying it ships Monday Aug 4th. The price was $536.95. Can this be accurate?
I am going to use this deck primarly as a cable tuner for my Marantz S2 projector. I thought I might also watch a tape or two. How do you think it will do as a NTSC tuner?

well that seems cheap. Now I'm upset I ordered a 30k for $436 that I have to pay the postage on to send back! Let us know if you get it OK

Rick, it's a great price, but why in God's name would you get this unit as a "cable tuner"?? You can buy a $50 VCR to do the same thing.

That's the direct link to Office Depot's tech area. Says they have eight in stock right now.

Than is an AMAZING price!!!! If this is real, it means a price drop on the 30K is coming soon....

Verrry interesting. I know where TechDepot buys their consumer electronics stuff from...I just went into the distributor's inventory system, and it does say that there are HMDH40000U machines in stock! And the price is lower than my other JVC distrib said it would be...

I'll have to verify tomorrow that the inventory info is correct.

Eric,

Verification would be great from the source. :)

Can you let us in on the distributor's website? :D

I checked out the pricing on Amazon, both the 30K and the 40K have the same pricing. I wonder if this is some weird mistake. Although Office TEch has it for the same price.

Also Onecall doesnt seem to have the 40K listed on the website, which is kind of weird. You would think they would have it

Where are you guys finding the 40000 on amazon.com? Can someone post a link? I searched for "JVC 40000" & it didn't come up. Thanks.

http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg...A3T4TT2Z381HKD

if that link doesn't work, go to www.amazon.com, scroll down to the bottom of the homepage, click on the Office Depot link in the partner's section (left side of the page), then search for "HMDH40000U"

Thanks Alex.

i would guess that if tech and amazon / office have the same price then it is not a mistake, unless they are actually the same place, tho i dont think a large store like office would have sister site .. like some HK stores do
post #14 of 101
They are the same place. Office Depot has a pass through agreement with Amazon much in the same way as Toys-r-us. I wouldn't think twice about getting it though, if it doesn't work out I think you can bring it back to your local store, but don't quote me on that.

Hold your horses, folks!!

I just talked to the JVC distrib where TechDepot gets their consumer electronics. It looks like a boo-boo in the system. These are probably HMDH30000U boxes...they are investigating further and will make any appropriate corrections in their inventory system.
I cannot give out the distrib's website; it's for resellers only.

Interestingly enough, I just got an updated JVC price list from my other JVC distrib and it reiterates that the 30000U and 40000U will both be in the product line simultaneously.

The 40000U will indeed be more expensive than that.

I don't think they will be available until late this month.

Thought this was too good (or for me, who just bought a 30K last week, too bad) to be true. There was a comment on another thread that a JVC source indicated the 40K will NOT replace the 30K; rather, both will co-exist. I found that rather odd. More likely than not, this is simply a way for JVC to more gracefully get rid of their 30K inventory. I'll bet that once the inventory of 30K is gone, the 30K will be formally dropped.

I did a search earlier today on the 40K and some place came up with the 30K for the price mentioned in this thread; they wanted 749.99 for the 40K.
Sorry.

Great, I just got a replacement JVC 30k from onecall. It was an old serial number starting with 147. I sent it and the original one that was defective back to them, then ordered the 40k from techdepot. Looks like that will also wind up getting sent back.
I am going to be livid if they send me the wrong unit. Hopefully, if this is indeed an error, they will catch it before the units ship. I do NOT want to deal with the hassle of returning an item, trying to get a refund for the purchase price AND shipping/handling, etc.
I just called them and they swear it's the 40000, but I doubt it is. I had them flag my order so I can return it no cost to me if it's not the correct model.
Tech Depot swears it's the 40000 because that's the info that the distrib is giving to them. They really wouldn't know one way or the other. All I can say is that when I called my sales rep at the distrib and he looked at it in the computer, then whipped out his hardcopy JVC price book, he could readily see that something is amiss.

Either it is indeed the 30000U or you're getting a *really good* price on the 40000U! <g>

But either way, it will be "adjusted" shortly. It is *most* likely that they are 30000U machines.

This seems the right price because someone else is selling new 40000s through Amazon for $30 more. He specifically states it's the 40000.
Well I hope it is, I'm covered either way because I had them note on my order number that if it is NOT the 40k I can return it and they will pay the return shipping. Hopefully it will be the 40k, I just sent 2 30k's back to onecall.

I just received shipping confirmation on my order. It should be in sometime next week, so I'll let you all know what they say.
I got a confirmation too. If it is not the 4000 I will just refuse delivery and it will go right back to them.

You will probably have to open an exterior box before you can see the manufacturer box -- hopefully you have a friendly delivery person!
Yea I got confirmation too. All documents they have indicate a 40000, but I still kind of doubt it. Mine will arrive Friday, it shipped today from Harrisburg PA, and I'm in California. Maybe someone else is closer to PA?

Same here. My "confirmation e-mail" as well as the "shipping notice" e-mail both specify: DVHS HDTV VIDEO RECORDER. I would feel a whole lot better if the model number had been specified.

I don't want or need another 30K.
OK when I click on my order it shows me the following:
Serial # For DVHS HDTV VIDEO RECORDER
HM-DH40000U 11810191

Is this a 30k Serial number or a 40k one?
Mine is due to be delivered on Wednesday via UPS.

Assuming it is the 40k, I have to rate Amazon service as the best I have run across.
