Is this a 30k Serial number or a 40k one?
Wow, this looks like a 490K unit! 30Ks are in the 157-158 range of serial numbers. Looks promising!

Onecall sent me a replacement 30k that had a serial number starting with 147. Since JVC has told me twice that all serial #'s less than 15712101 need to be factory upgraded, I sent it back unopened. So there are some 30k's that don't start with 157 in the serial number. I'm just hoping that 118 means it's a 40k and not a 30k.

My 40000 ? is supposed to be coming on thursday. So i will post at that time to let people know. If they listed it at that price they should honor that price if these are not the real thing
post #34 of 101
I called them, and expressed concern that the deck was really the 30000. The CSR said he'd check with the guys in the warehouse and have them look at the carton!

Two and a half hours later, the guy calls me back, and says its definately the 40000. My order is in!
The irony of this is that they show 1-to-2 week delivery on the 30K at the very same price as the 40K , which they show ready for immediate delivery. Both are around $500+

uzun,

Just curious. Since Onecall only accepts defective returns, how did you talk them into letting you return the JVC??
Thanks, Tom B.

The first one I got was defective, it would not reliably record digital material. The second one I got I never even opened, since it was a known defective serial # from JVC (they said it had to have some sort of upgrade, JVC has told me twice serial #'s below a certain value need upgrades). So both were defective.

Thanks,
I didn't know you had not opened it.

I just got mine, IT IS the 40000!

Techdepot is out of stock now, blah....this it what happens when you don't check the boards for a week....hehe...

fyi another member has been using a Japanese 40000; robena, i think , and says it is not much more reliable then his 30000; head cleaning needed every 20 hours.. maybe the us model works better or he has a lemon... hmmm .. i wonder if it comes with the head cleaning tape that mite give us some indication of what to expect.

I love the look of it, picture quality will have to wait till next week; I am between projectors right now. My old Barco 1208/2 is gone, I am waiting for a 1209s. They give you a JVC head-cleaning tape with it, I hope that does not mean it still has the problems of the old model.

What is the serial number below which the 30K is defective? I had the original upgrade performed, but it is my understanding that there may be other problems.

JVC 30k's with serial #'s 15712101 and higher are OK, with 15712100 and lower are bad. I had one that was defective, and had a high serial #, however.

Don't feel to bad....
I ordered one while there still was stock left, but when the order status didn't change from "in process" to "shipped", I emailed customer service. Turns out they're out of stock.
(And only after my inquiry did the status change on the website.)

Seems suspicious....and will be noted on their ratings survey.

Why must life be so complicated. My serial # is 13610687 which is low. Does this mean I should send it in? If so, is the fix made w/o charge?

I don't use the machine often as I much prefer my Mits decks.

Any idea how long they will be backordered?

so then really one can not count on the serial numbers alone; or was that defect different
post #50 of 101
I just got a bad machine I think, unrelated to the known defects in the lower serial # machines. Of course, when onecall sent me a replacement it was a low serial # unit, so I sent it back unopened then ordered one of the 40ks from techdepot

How do we know that those with serial #'s below are bad? I have a 30K with #1227 and have never had a problem. What is the fix if there is one?

I do have an extended warranty with ABT Electronics maybe I'll get it replaced with a 40K if it goes bad.

You can call JVC and ask, when I called and gave them the serial #'s they told me all those below that # are eligible for upgrades to fix known problems. Maybe some units don't exhibit these problems? Best is to call JVC and see what they say when you give them your serial #

I tried to find out about my order from Tech Depot and they said they had none in stock and were unable to fill my order place on August 1. Don'[t know what is going on with them
post #54 of 101
otisivie,

The JVC 40000U's are backordered at the distrib which services TechDepot's orders. I'll automatically get an email when they are back in stock, so I can let you know.

I think it was mentioned in this thread that TechDepot only had 12 in stock, so it is not unrealistic to think that stock ran out quickly after this announcement was made. I am sure that, once they are back in stock, you will receive the deck. If not, raise some hell -- you made an offer, they accepted. I really don't think there is anything shady happening, however. Hopefully when their next shipment comes in yours will be one of the first to be sent out.

Has anyone had a chance to hook theirs up yet? I won't get mine until Friday

I just received mine. It also is the 40K.

I wonder what the next rumor will be.
It looks like I was correct about the JVC 40000 boo-boo...the cost in the distrib's system just jumped up about $150. That original batch was mis-priced!

Received mine today and it is the 40000. Having my DTC 100 modified by 169 time now. Richard will be testing the avx 1 with the 40000 this week. Ihave a 30000 as well in case there are any quirks but I dont seee why that would happen.
