There have been several Ebay ads recently offering Buy it Now for this price. I am sure a lot of people want to know whether warranties are valid etc. This recorder will be the hottest one over the next 4-6 months, absolutely no doubt. Give the new buyers your professional opinions if you can. I have talked to some friends who did this and their units were sealed box and worked. How they can sell this low is a mystery, since this can not be far from cost.

I purchased a DMR-E60 on ebay, it was advertised as new sealed box and it was. I called Panasonic about the warranty and they said I only needed a sales slip (PayPal sheet ok) that said it was sealed and had a date.

just by searching deal time there are a few priced at $519.

newegg has a good deal on refurbished e60's at $335.

Click on the $519 the price has gone down to $499!

I went to a local retailer in the NY area and they would sell it to me for $525!

I just got my E-80 from ecost.com for $539 including shipping!

Ordered it online and got it 2 days later.

They only had 4 out of a total of 42 left after I ordered so they may be sold out by now.

It seemed like a great price and I have dealt with ecost before and never had a problem.

I have only had time to record a couple camcorder tapes and edit them for one 6 hour DVD.

I love the hard drive it makes it pretty easy to edit your recordings prior to burning.

You used 6-hour (EP) mode for your camcorder transfers?? I would strongly recommend a higher speed mode; at least SP. EP mode is pretty marginal, if you ask me....

I sometimes use LP for time-shifting TV, but that's as low as I'll ever go...

I plan on archiving TV shows from Direct TV to hard drive when I receive my Panny E-80.

Can you please comment at what speed should I record to hdd? I then plan to transfer to DVD-R (Try to fit as many shows as possible)

I really can't comment on DirectTV, since I don't have it.

For over-the-air, SP (2Hr) seems to be pretty good. If you really want to jam as many programs on a disk as possible, LP (4hr) is ok, but obviously inferior... LP has a drop in resolution as well as higher compression rate.

You really have to try them for yourself and see.

Just ordered one for $549 including shipping from buydig.com. ecost was a bit cheaper, but they had some really horrible feedback so I went with buydig.
