It will ALWAYS be the Bengals or Browns!

That is why I sub to NFLST. Lived in this area for most of my 40+ years and those two teams plus the Steelers have been pushed down our throats since as long as I can remember.

I get there is a fan base of those teams in the area, but you would think every one in a while we could get a good national matchup instead.

That's what i like about getting the DNS channels on Directv. You at least get to see other teams besides those 3 teams.

Are you DirecTV customers getting a lot of brrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrips, stutters and momentary video loss on our Huntington/Charleston locals (WVAH seems to by far the worse).

I've switched some of my season passes from NY-DNS and I'm seeing this quite a bit. Multiple times in an hour on most shows. The SP's still on NY-DNS seem OK.

I am actually looking at going the other way. I am getting a lot of breakups on 390. I like 390 better because it is in 5.1, but the breakups are making me wonder if I need move my SP's to 13.

Survivor was almost unwatchable last night on 390. I am going to dual record Numb3rs tonight on both 390 and 13 and see what happens.

Let us know how they compare.

To give you a point of reference, I am not experiencing these pauses on Dish or broadcast.

Watched Numb3rs last night on 390 and there were no breakups. I will try and look at the 13 feed this weekend.

I did notice several of the Brrrrrrrip's on 11 watching the baseball game. They are not as bad as some I have seen on national channels, but still annoying.

WTF?

Why is 8 showing a movie instead of the Texas/Oklahoma game?

Because the sports programming genuises there are too cheap to move the lame MU-WVU hour long coal commercial pregame show to the 11o'clock slot to allow the dual Heisman candidate/Nat'l Championship implications game to be aired. (Their program directors stink!) I guess they did not want to lose any infomercial money to slip the pregame show to 11AM. I wish they'd broadcast OTA 8.2 again to show what the official ABC Sports Map shows they are suppposed to broadcast gamewise. They pulled the same crap last year but showed a stinking couple distant unranked Big East teams game of the 'weak' matchup instead.

Also, You'd think the Governor could get the MU-WVU game broadcast in HD! Maybe they could use stimulus money and present it in "Robert C. Byrd High Definition" ;-)

I've had the same experiences with Directv on WVAH-HD since the Locals Turn On. Does not happen with SD or any other Local. This had been commented about in Directv Customer Forums with a few replies, but not much advice or explanations about any possible or the obvious "direct" causes or solutions, and just recently had this same effect, but only very briefly on ESPNHD , but not even nearly as bothersome as on FOX. Hope this does not become the norm.

"Robert C. Byrd High Definition"......Hahahaha.
HD is good.

"Too cheap and weak....oh my, but at least WCHS HD has 5.1 DD and WSAZ and WOWK won't provide it. Does any of these providers give their customers what is available, or even worse...their moneys worth?

Actually WSAZ did broadcast in 5.1 DD, but recently had an equipment failure, and for whatever reason has been unable to fix it....HD was out for a day or two as well.

Funny....actually hate to ruin the joke, but for some reason none of the local channels can broadcast local content in HD yet, only network feeds. For example, Wheel of Fortune and Jeopardy are available in HD, but aren't shown locally in HD.

Maybe the reason was already mentioned in the joking. "cheap and weak"
But on another note, then Imagine how some of the Local TV Personalities would appear on Big Wide Screen HD?

Update on the Audio Brrrrrrrrrrrr:

Really terrible here today with DirecTV and the WVAH HD NFL Games today, as it just repeated several times within a minute. and now with even some audio loss rather than the Brrrrrrrs, and noticed some of the Brrrrrrrs problem is now appearing slightly on ESPNHD more frequently than it has before with ESPN, but not even nearly as often and length as on the Local Fox Station. All my DirecTV HD SAT signals are in the 80's and 90's, and again, this problem has not been noticed on any other DirecTV HD regular, premium or other Local HD Stations offerings and none of this does not occur with Fox OTA.
Wonder if one should contact DirecTV or the Local Station about this problem, as the DTV forums seemed to have no specific solutions?

Thanks again for any feedback.

The Brrrrrip is nothing new and not isolated to our local channels.

Thanks herdfan for that Link, as you are absolutely correct, but the very long thread was closed last July, and unfortunately with no resolve, with only best suggestion given was to just report it to a CSR, who would then email info to their engineers and from there, then it appears to go into a Black Hole.

noticed an issue with wchs last night with sound as well.
I had that problem (sound on WCHS) on regular cable last nite...

Anyone else having issues with WSAZ since Friday??

Video freezes for a second or less. Audio is OK. Is happening almost continuously.

DirecTV. All other locals OK.

Yep, I've had this problem the last few days. If you pause and immediately restart, therefore running a few seconds behind live TV, it is much smoother.

I just now watched WSAZ 3.1 over-the-air for a couple of minutes, and I didn't notice any problems.

Do you have DirecTV?
Wow.. No posts in this thread in almost a month. You can tell HD has gone mainstream and all the local providers carry locals now.

Now we need to get Suddenlink to expand its HD lineup to include channels it has in other areas such as Discovery, USA and Universal.
Speaking of Suddenlink....I thought it was supposed to get the NFL network this season?

We currently only have 16 of the 39 national HD Channels Suddenlink offers.

We are suppose to get New HD channels in mid February, it was in the Daily Mail a couple of weeks ago in an article about faster internet, Suddenlink spokesman Michael Kelemen said
Quote:
Suddenlink also will add new high-definition television channels to the Suddenlink HD lineup in mid-February, including Discovery HD, Disney HD, TLC HD and FX HD.

.

After 2 years they better add more than those 4, like USA and SyFy and CW I would finally like to see Smallville in HD before its cancelled. I want Universal but I doubt we will get it, we used to have every HD Channel Suddenlink offered except Universal and they didn't add the previous additions.

We have:
PBS
ABC
CBS
FOX
NBC

A&E
ESPN
ESPN2
FOOD
HGTV
History
HDNet
HDNet Movies
HD Theater
Nat Geo
Paladia
TBS
TNT

Cinemax
HBO
Showtime
Starz

We will get at least these:

Discovery
Disney
FX
TLC

Suddenlink Offers in other areas but we don't have:

CW
MY Network TV (MYZ for us)

A Regional Sports Network (varies by location)

ABC Family
Animal Planet
Bravo
Cartoon Network
CMT
CNBC
CNN
Comedy Central
Lifetime
MGM HD
MTV
Nickelodeon
Spike
SyFy
Travel
Universal HD
USA
VH-1

They are adding Fox News HD and AMC HD by early January in some areas and by the end of January Outdoor HD to some areas.

Thanks for the info SGRSBSKIER. Have been wanting Discovery HD as long as it has existed. HD Theater used to be a wonderful channel until it went to mainly showing motor sports. Would love to hav USA and Universal for the Olympics and Syfy as well. Neither Dish or Direct TV is an option for me as a mountain blocks their signal so must use Suddenlink for HD service.
I forgot about the olympics. I would have said if we were to get more than those 4 channels, Bravo, CNBC, Universal HD, USA would have the best chance to be added, but I would have thought it would have been mentioned in the article as it would have made for a good announcement and could have persuaded more people to upgrade to their HD service.

Even though Bravo and CNBC have olympic coverage I would prefer something else as I wouldn't watch them pass the olympics.
Thanks for the info SGRSBSKIER! Hopefully we will get more than just the 4 channels listed in the article.
